Stopped at the spillway tonight, not sure who was more crazier. Me for walking down in the cold  windy rain or the 11 boats and 25 people fishing when I stopped by. But there were some nice fish being caught.

I guess it shouldn't be a surprise about the crowd.  This morning Robinson's FB page stated they were "murdering" the fish at the spillway..."crappie and walleye, one after the other"!

Ya.  If that's my business, and people are catching like that, then I would have the page plastered with pics.  All I've seen are some blue gill and a couple crappie where the guys are holding them five feet from their bodies and calling them hogs.   Whatever...

I hear you, dog.  Been doing things around the house and holding off.  Going to bite the bullet one day next week.  Not so much the air temp or rain, I'm all about the wind.  Out of the north northwest and I stay home!  Actually saw someone on here post about wind out of the east, but some of my best days at Linesville where when the winds were out of the east/southeast.  Something about that just sets up the perfect drift.  Plus, coming off shore that close to the islands the lake doesn't get a chance to go into full blown whitecaps, as opposed to the west or northwest.  Enough of the meteorology.  I just want to go next week!

Off topic discussion but, important.

Docks are in at Shenango, water level as of 03-30-17 was 3.5' below summer pool.

I've fallen into the trap twice now about pyma being on fire. I drive all the way from Bemus Point ,NY and have been very disappointed. They've definitely lost a customer! Any recommendations for a good bait shop on pyma?

They always say the lakes booming!! Usually by this time I've spent 20 days fishing and there's only a few guys I'll give a heads up to. It's not fun to pull into your spot and see 10 guys fishing it. But then again when they all have empty stringers and yours is full is a nice feeling :)

Every trip I stop at Gateway in the morning.  Always straight info, no extra bs.  Russ always gives a heads up on the weather.  Usually ends with good luck and be careful if it looks like the day could get rough.

Common mistake for any angler, take the word of a bait shop owner. Even bigger mistake, reading articles by self proclaimed "outdoor writers" who glean information from.... bait shop owners.

But the biggest mistake, is reading my post which by now, is toooo late. 😜

Everybody should know by now the spillway is always the first to report fishing action legal or illegal. Causeway is about the same . The overall lake fishing usually differs , turning on weeks later. If I was traveling far my best window would be mid April to mid May. Not only for Pymy but all NW lakes including Erie (Smallies). I'd never listen to most bait shop reports, I don't think they lie....... they just kind of juice it up a bit !

Re: PYMATUNING FISHING REPORT 2017/04/01 12:39:39 (permalink)
A lot depends on consistent weather, been fishing a couple of years haha, mid April usually is a good rule of thumb to start constantly catching eyes wading,I'm not saying that you can't have luck earlier, but for the guy traveling I say wait a bit. Boaters don't be afraid to beach your boat on a sand bar or island and wade,no secret I've done it. May is walleye time on Pymy, you can do real good trolling tots, dragging crawler harnesses, floating jig heads or any other secret lure you got. Although I don't have time to fish,May is the month to crush Erie small mouths, yea you can get some in April and June but May is show time. When I did fish Erie if I told you my PB day numbers on bass you'd all call me a lair,so I wouldn't tell you how many. I will say the lake has some world class fishing, eyes,SM,LM,Steelhead, and some of the biggest Panfish in the state. I'm not pushing Erie on anyone but if you haven't fish it,your missing out on some unbelievable fishing, take it from a guy that use to go to Canada 2-3 times a year.

You nailed it Big T ! I have friends that go to Canada Bass fishing every year . I have told them your crazy the best Smallmouth fishing in the country is right here along the Bay and lake shores.
I've had crazy fish numbers in one day's fishing , just like you say no one would believe you !
I'm going to toss one # for kicks....I landed 21 Smallies myself in a 4 hour trip all over 15" biggest about 20". Anybody could do it. We use to kill the big Rock Bass also (great eating).I haven't fished the Bay in years but I've spent lots of days on it. # 1 in Spring fishing.

The walleye will disperse as water temperatures heat up, also had luck with#5 Colorado blades and a 2 hook harness.

I like Richter's and Gateway for bait shops as well, went today and caught a couple small perch.
The causeway had people fishing out of the car on the OH side and about 3 vehicles and a boat by the bridge on PA side.
Stopped at orchard fish commission truck with trailer and one other boat launched there, pretty choppy.
Snodgrass had one person out on a boat and a guy shore fishing in the bay.
Some people in the park and Jamestown marina had about 8 boat trailers there.
