Rosy red minnows

Anybody ever use the rosy reds for trout fishing? Like the ones you can get at the pet stores. Just curious

    Long time ago. Bait stores used to sell them. Guessing they still do..

    I dont believe they are readily avaliable at bait shops anymore, i know they are just a fat head but different color, was just doing some research on them and read that they can be killer for trout and especially crappie

    Yes. Years ago. They're small, but work good. Make sure they don't give you any feeder goldfish in with them. I've taken to trapping my own when I use minnows any more.

    Yea i like getting my own too but have had a problem with jag offs stealing my minnows or the whole trap, plus was just looking for something different to throw at the trout

    Some bait shops do have them particularly in trout season.  Dean's in Indiana will have them for trout season.

    I can honestly say that any bait shop ive bin in hasn't had them, im not doubting you JR, i just figured more places would carry them

    I hear ya.  Lock 3 bait usually has them to. I have used them in the river and caught smallmouth on them also.  anybody know where to buy small trout for bait?

    Used Rosy Reds lots of times. They were popular in certain bait shops for years. Never really did nothing great with them, I think regulars were always better. They make good minnows for fish tanks nice yellow gold color and they actually live fairy long.

    Tackle unlimited usually carries them begging of trout season I've had good luck on crappie with them not so much on trout
