I picked up a hitchhiker today. I developed a burning hurting sensation under my beard line under my chin. Turns out a nice e friendly deer tick attached himself to me. Dam  thing hurt like hell,I got him all out,and applied all alcohol. Looks like I got the head also..I'll be keeping my eye out for the bullseye ring. Probably should just get the antibiotics just to be safe. Check yourself out deer hunters, beware ticks are out.

Every year here in Ct I pick several off myself during yard work,  fishing or Hunting- and I hunt near Lyme Ct--the birthplace lol.
Got the antibiotics as a precaution once years ago when bit by a little teenie meanie one ya could hardly see.
Never bother even checking with the larger brown ticks.
My next door neighbor got it bad and is on the meds at least once a year every year.
Now on my third dog with it too.

i'm surprised that ticks are still about.  i figured after a number of freezes they were done for the season.

They'll go dormant when it dips down around freezing, but the cold doesn't kill em. First warm day, they're back to being dirty little bass turds.

It is a besutiful day in Pennsylvania....... somewhere.

Stupid rain/sleet/snow and the wind is begining to stir. Weather dude says the wind can be expected to reach gusts of 25 MPH today but for now, barely a breeze.

One shot, not from me, at 8:37 AM and only one car in a usually busy parking area. Thus far I have not seen sign of any life form, including when I looked, in the mirror this morning.

Stay tuned, details at 7.

PS. No longer raining, OAT at 36 and, the wind is picking up setting the wind chill at 30.

Well, B.T., I hate to do this but I got my dam deer first! I'm not happy and where should I send the bill? Oh, by the way I took it with my fully automatic was that wrong? Got sort this out, PGC , Range, Mark West or Shell maybe PDOT should be in this pot. Traveling a back road, shortcut, to Walmart this morning came upon a construction site, one of the three gas companies mentioned above crossing the road with their pipe. Driving slow and keeping a close eye on those workers, you know how they forget where they are sometimes, one of the PGCs stupid deer run into my fully  automatic Chevy s10.
Way I see it I was on a state road when a PGC deer hit me because gas well workers scared it out of the woods, now I have a dent in my front fender. Who gets the bill? You're now my lawyer. Before I forget the gas well guy finished the deer, small doe, off. Plus they said they'd use it. First deer since 2003!

Welllllll now let me be the first to congratulate you on your deer.

No chance suing the PGC as they would claim it was a Buckeye deer because they have successfully anialated all white tails through ther PA genocide deer program. Also you would be required to testify taking the "5th" because automatics have not been approved for this year and will incriminate yourself.

My recommendation would take the "5th" and go talk to the gas well workers. Perhaps one will have autobody repair work as a sidline and will be gracious enough, for the deer and the fifth, to repair the damage.

If not, return home, open the "5th" turn on Garth Brooks and "drink your blues away".

Your lucky part of the day; no consultation fees, I didn't get money for YOU!

PS. Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

been at home most of the day today, in southern ButCo in 2D.

some shooting volleys here and there.  watched a doe and her two boys walking quickly/nervously through my neighbors yard around 10 am, following a few shots from the woods to the south of my house.

as normally happens most years on the second monday morning of the season, when i walk my son down to the end of the driveway to catch the bus on monday morning, i bet a handful of deer that have been pushed from the woods to my north and south will bound up from the brushy creek bottom across the road where they find sanctuary and run up through the fields heading north.

think the boy and i are heading out shortly with the crossbow.

old dog steve, i know that body thing.  funny how ten years change things so much.  i had planned on fishing sunday but i'm having doubts.   bt, hope you weather this as well as you did your bypass.
yep old dog 10 years changes everything my friend 😜 .... today I saw 4 hunters, 2 coyotes and no deer ....figure the coyotes might be the reason not seeing many deer... couldn't get a good shot at either one of them ...that really sucked 😡 Stayed in my shanty with stove fired up at least I stayed warm from daybreak until almost 1:00 figured I had enough of this crap. Very little shooting , about 6 shots with only 2 kinda close. Done about 25 hrs this week in the woods saw 1 buck not a shooter and 3 doe and maybe 7 hunters .... have had about enough of this !!!

Wonderful day in the wilds of Pa.. Nice morning in my tree stand calm with a little sleet/rain, saw 7 doe being followed by a 4pt. Unfortunately for 1 big doe she became my 1st kill at the new homestead. Got her taken care of, had lunch then the better half and I went back out and sat in the blind out of the rain. Saw another small buck at dark. Saw 3 bucks & 7 doe total. Heard some shooting not as much as I expected.
My neighbor pulled in my drive as I was hanging my deer in the garage, I'd heard him shoot in the morning so when he said he wanted to show me something I said did you get the big one and he said yep about 450lbs. So instead of a big buck he had a big boar. I told him it looked just like the one that had pulled down our bird feeders. Me and my bee hives are glad to see it dead. Hope everyone had a good day. Ohh 1 last thing. Stupid antler restrictions

again, not a deer hunter, but has gary ault's experiment failed?   everyone i know in my parts once headed over to penn's woods at one time.  i know few who even bother.  those that had camps shot a lot of does in the beginning years of a.r. but now complain there is little to shoot at.
yeah I would say it failed big time .... like I said we took part in this also so guess I can not complain to much. At 65 I have had my hay day hunting but do feel for the younger guys coming up. My friends grandson did get a 6 pt today in 1A and he is 14 so congrats to him. I will probably just bow hunt my remaining hunting years .... at least it will be warmer most of the time ....😜🍺🍺

Re: 2016 deer gun season 2016/12/04 00:21:06 (permalink)
Speaking of Gary Alt and the success of his plan, Gary was just the messenger and the plan, as I see it, is still proceeding with the expected results. To see that plan one need take a look at the "big picture" beginning with the creation of WMUs and the desire and method used forcing hunters to kill antlerless deer. (A/K/A; Doe)

I've made my feelings known on this forum in the past, regarding the plan and to this day, I stick by my comments.

Last I heard Alt was hired to institute a deer plan similar to that of PA. for the state of Michigan.

I believe Gary has or will be doing a speaking engagenent at PSU; Dubois, PA.

Long story short, the plan is working but not without sacrafice. Some of thosr sacrafices are as recently, as this thread.

Today, I did more patroling than hunting. I made sure I was seen in as many places as possible along the edges of the fields.

To my suprise no other hunters cared to join me in hunting the areas.

Darn my luck.........

Mike congrats on your deer and to your buddy on the bear.

Re: 2016 deer gun season 2016/12/04 02:44:06 (permalink)
Well my son put me through  riggers. Our hunt began at 6:45 on stand and waiting for daylight,it ended at 4:30 PM. 9.5 hours might have been a tad to long for this old guy but I hung in there. Day was pretty active from about 8:30 till 11:00am then from 3:00 till 4:00 then nada. Does where plentiful but not a buck in sight. Saw 21 total and every one was verified to be a doe or button buck. I had a couple big ones lined up safety off but never did touch off, stupid me. I'm holding out for the buck that's never going to show.lol Well probably cost me on my freezer meat but I got a full week to find the right big girl. Need to make some chip steaks and a batch of 50/50 venison pork Italian sausage.lol Got late bow, muzzleloader, and my son still needs to fill his buck tag in Ohio. There still a lot of time to get it done but opportunities are slipping through my fingers. I was sorta pumped up to take a doe but then with all the activity I became obsessed with seeing a legal buck. Shooting was on the light side so I don't no if everyone was buck hunting or hunters weren't seeing does to shoot at. Oh well I'm glad it's Sunday,a day of rest,my old knees are thumping and my lower back not feeling well. Did a extensive search for ticks, and going to buy some Sayers tick spray today. Oh well one more week and it over.lol Times flying,I can believe Christmas is 3 weeks away boy this fall really flew by. Good luck fellows. BT

Was hunting in 2d  (saxonberg) the shooting started right after legal hours. pretty steady shooting most of the day. Didn't see anything till 9am just a few smaller does. Now heading back to the truck for some food and drink seen a huge herd of deer running threw the feild no horms. as soon as they crossed the road a sure a few of them had a bad day. Sounded like 100 shots were fired at them.  afternoon sit took all of about 5 minutes back in the ground blind when a mature doe walk out of some thick brush watched her for a little over a 1/2 hour. Well no little ones with her So know I have to cut her up this morning.  Did seen a nice shooter running across a feild as I was dragging the doe back to the truck. No chance at a shot tho. Overall a awesome day hunting with friends

Re: 2016 deer gun season 2016/12/04 15:37:30 (permalink)
Story of the day.........

A quarter mile to my south driving his car my neighbor encountered a six point buck standing in his lane. He stops the car less than 10' from the critter and the deer just stands there.

Neighbor gets out of the car and the animal turns, walks a few steps and leans on the front of the car. Second car stops, the deer walks to the side of the road, turns coming back and leans on the car again.

A few minutes pass and the deer moves to a rivine then stands in a creek that passes under the road.

Several more cars stop and discussion include Injured, run by dogs to CWD as the cause for the action of the deer.

In addition to the deer not being afraid of humans, it walked in a high stepping fashion, drooling and looked skinny. No sign of external injury was obvious.

Someone in the group had a gun and another was calling a WCO that lives in a village 3 miles to the south.

Should the deer be dispatched or permitted to continue and, allow nature to decide it's fate?

Neighbor had to continue to a appointment but will find out from a onlooker what was decided.

Spent another eerily slow and quiet day in 2A. First shot at 7:50, only 7 shots by noon. The jugular vein of hunter participation has been sliced.

have to agree there dpms , what gets me not seeing a lot doe sucks but I hunt on 2 properties about 120 acres between them have been hunting them for 28 years know the patterns and funnels very good. So on the 2 camera's I've had 3 nice bucks which I have posted a few pictures of . To my knowledge nobody has got these bucks , 2 of them the word would get out for sure. I have hit several areas at dusk and a few guys have been driving thickets pretty hard...but need more hunters I guess 😜...it amazes me that they just disappear and reappear after the season sometimes ..., lol

I'm thinkin' we are just getting to damed old to go out tooo long for so many times. As for the walking, in my case, you can forget that crap cause the further your in the further it takes to get out. No way am I draggin' no stupid deer, let the dam things walk if they want to get out.

Oh yeah, maybe having no snow had something to do with the low turn out.

But look at the good point, less hunters, lighter kill this year. More tags and back to two weeks "antlerless" next year.

I'll be there.

Priceless.

Much quieter than I thought it would be with buck, doe, and bear hunters out.  Lousy, miserable, cold, damp day.  Only saw 3 doe and that took until 1 o'clock.  Good thing I took mine during archery.

Taking the day off. We processed 120 lbs. of hamburger yesterday. Still have to clean the shop. Between the 6 of us we've harvested 2 bucks ( small 7 pt. and Big 5 pt. ) and 1 doe. Seen plenty of deer all week. Caught some monster bucks on trail cams during daytime hours. They are bedding in the sanctuary ( 8 acres of thickets that we don't push ) Back at it tomorrow for the wall hangers.

Snow coming to my little piece of Penn's Woods beginning Thursday or so says, Accu weather. Friday is said to be another chance of snow with a possibility of 1.5" on the ground.

Will be interesting to see if this change in weather will motivate more hunters.

I know I can't wait.......... for sunset this coming Saturday.
