Keeping fish

How the **** can people eat these nasty things. Last week a fat kid threw a green egg sack in my secret hole and he caught a brown. Should have cut his line because fatso took it right home. This fishery isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The game commish doesn't seem too concerned. The fishermen must act. Mupheres forget your yellow ropes one weekend

Maybe people should cut your line when you cross them for the 100th time at trout run, trying to throw spoons where there is no room to do so.And relax duuude, they r just dumb fish.

What would you expect him to catch in your secret hole. Sounds more like you catching???

Did he keep a 16 inch jack and eat it like a Hershey bar right in front of you? I see this happen a lot on poor Richards and uncle johns facebook pages.

Wonder where all the big fish are? Lets allow all of these kmarts to rope 16 inch "steelhead" that will repeat run in a few years and be big fish. They don't have a chance. PFBC MANAGEMENT FOR THE WIN.

Re: Keeping fish 2016/10/26 04:28:38 (permalink)
The reason the Game Commission doesn't seem concerned is because they are not the regulating/enforcement agency.  The regulating agency for fishing in Pennsylvania is the Pa Fish & Boat Commission.  Up until June 2016 one WCO was covering Erie Co (due to vacant position), his name is Matt, two PT deputies assist during the fall.  June 2016, Tyler Soety became assigned to eastern Erie Co. Three full time equivalent people to cover the entire county!  Now take a look at the salary of a WCO (deputies are unpaid), lets see how many people are willing to get their a** up at 4:30am and deal with the nonsense for under $40K a year. Not to mention that after you complete training you can be sent anywhere in the state and must secure residence that allows for an area for you to receive the "public".

Now lets address your concern with the brownie:
First, there aren't any "secret" holes, steelhead will run up any stream with sufficient flow.  If there is water, there is fish.  Learn how to read seams and locate holding spots and you will find more fish.
Second, if someone caught and kept a fish by legal means, that is the privilege that comes with purchasing a license.  If you have a problem with it, why don't you confront them instead of posting on an internet site.  You could also become deputized and volunteer your time enforcing the existing laws at your own expense after completing an eight week course and purchasing your own equipment; after which you still couldn't do a d*m thing to someone who harvests a fish my legal means.
If I caught a hen brown, I may would consider keeping primarily for the eggs.  If you decided to cross my line on a "good hook" for something you consider inappropriate;  You would definitely have your hands full and probably would be the last time you considered that.

Bottom line, if you have a problem with existing laws, you could:
1.  Contact the NW District Commissioner Edward P Mascharka  III (814-337-0444) and voice your concerns.
2.  Grow a set of *alls and confront the "unethical angler" in person instead of behind a keyboard.
3.  Shut your mouth and accept that he is following the existing laws.
4.  Do something constructive to help improve the fishery
5.  Actually learn how to catch them instead of crying about another fisherman catching a fish that you didn't.  You'll learn more by keeping your mouth shut and your eyes open.

But first make sure you do some research and educate yourself to know what your actually talking about.

Sac out!!

Re: Keeping fish 2016/10/26 05:09:07 (permalink)
Agreed. But what ends up happening is others read the nonsense and think its acceptable to cut lines.  Next thing Erie begins to look like Oswego or Burt Dam.

I have given up "hot spots", gear, etc. to guys with little kids many times; just to see the expression when they hook up, better than any fish I ever caught.  However,  between the snaggers and people without a clue.... its getting near point I don't want to subject my kid to that nonsense and expect her to continue to enjoy the sport.

End Nov/Beginning December cant come fast enough.

Also why I enjoy the Tenkara Rod, 15' of line don't give many ppl the opportunity to cut.

Its awesome, I'll be up in two weeks with it.  If your gonna be around then PM me.

All started with a bet and a cane pole on 20 last yr...long story short, landed the fish but busted the pole in 5 places.  Spent all spring/summer with a 9' for stockies and had a blast...Upgraded to a tenkara 13' for steel.  Had two on 2 wks ago but had to pop em off, because I ran out of real estate chasing them.  Still not very comfortable with the "throw your rod in until the fish rests technique", my luck the dam rod would go skipping out the mouth and halfway to Canada.

WOW Brad seems to be a little hostile with the fat kid and fatso remarks,
guess he thinks everyone should catch and release and now he promotes
cutting the line that seems to be a little bit extreme. That statement may
cause more fisherman to rope em , Im not opposed to catch and keep
your limit mostly everyone buys there license every year and that gives
them the right to do so.

since i've a bit of pudge above my belt, i take exception to the ''fatso'' comment and if you've ever seen a scotman do a hammer throw, i vow to do the same with every chromer i catch this year.  i'll decorate the trees with them.
