They were wearing sneakers and made it from manchester to the mall without getting their shoe laces wet.

Checked Walnut on the way home today, no Steelhead yet. Water was up and flowing good but I only saw small Cyprinids and a few Darters. Take another few weeks yet I'm guessing. I'm more looking forward to them starting to stage at the mouths though.

Not going to happen ... EVER. To each their own. While I wouldn't argue a 2 a day, or larger fish law would be agreeable. Catch and Release  isn't even in a mindset of meat fisherman. Why I do not really Bass fish. I do not keep all my Steelhead, however I may keep them here and there for a good smoker day 1 out of every 10 to 15.  Its all our personal options and opinions the law will never change there are PLENTY of fish, weather makes it seem like it may not be with trib fish more than any other. They have been running early and still in the creeks in late april / early may.Submit Post

I would say they are good to start off with. I have a hardy reel combo orig 780 got it for 680. Beginners don't need anything like that though

Was at Walnut yesterday fishing for River Chubs, didn't see any Steelhead from the mouth to the waterfall hole, just Chubs, Shiners, Darters, and Sculpins. May have been a Smallie by the mouth but I could've been mistaken.

^^^^ this.

I'm curious as to how this will work as well, I heard that they will halt construction during the steelhead run, but then I heard from someone that there were fences up, and things aren't going to open until October. Is that just for the wall, or is that for the stop sign hole/ manchester/ upstream areas as well?

Here's the story a week ago

Walnut Creek Access Area
The wall south or upstream from the marina entrance/exit should be open to anglers by early October.  The north wall lakeside from the entrance/exit will be partially open around the same time meaning that half will have a fence around it.

I'm back after the last few years of only 1 or 2 fruitless fishing trips or should I say fishless fishing trips. Hoping to make a few more trips this year.

Ok y'all gonna start a war here but I'm curious as to what those in the know are hearing. I read somewhere that the numbers of pink salmon are up this year in the lake, anyone know about this? I've been going up for years and have never seen one, I only ever heard of one being caught but never saw it for myself. Would be cool to see one someday. Oh and just so y'all know I'm right with ya on ropin' and smokin' em. I'll have my brother up for his second season this year, he has yet to land his first smoker. We had plenty of hookups last year but he's still learning the craft.

Pinks were hot for a short period of time this summer, mainly in July. I caught three off the point in mid July while fishing for Steelhead, all were 16-20" and 3-4 pounds. Released two of them because they're so rare, but one was fatally hooked so I kept him for the grill (tasted better than a Chinook IMO, nice and sweet). Also last year I saw one male Pink in trout run in October attempting to spawn with Steelhead and caught another one on the mountain last July around 22-23". Astonishingly one of the charters (I think it was vision quest) had something along the lines of catching 57 Salmon on Erie over this summer of all three species in the lakes (Pinks, Cohos, and Chinooks). Don't know why there are so many present this year (maybe a migration from Huron or far eastern basin Tribs like the Catt?), but hopefully there will be a lot present in the tributaries this year as well as staging out in the lake. If I do catch any in the creeks this Fall, I'll be releasing all of them on the off chance that perhaps a male and female of any of the species might some how find a nice gravel bed to spawn over, even if only a few fry survive.

That's awesome, sounds like it might be a great year to see something different. I didn't know there were any coho left, I haven't seen one in nearly 20 years and only ever caught one. I'm with ya on the C&R of the salmon, the steel will be there forever they stock more every year the salmon are what don't come back.
