They're biting right now! You just need offshore access... Caught a 9# and a 4# yesterday, plus three 3-4# Pink Salmon and a 23# Laker. Based on weather predictions, going to be another small run this year, dry and warm fall so Tribs aren't even on my mind, but maybe PIB come October.

Getting there slowly but surely. I've noticed that, the season after mild winters, I have great years, so hoping that trend continues this year.

I'm at least ready for the kind of weather that makes me start thinking about getting ready to fish for steelhead.

Have a bass tournament this weekend at Chautauqua Lake NY, and will be there Friday-Sunday. Thinking about taking a drive over to some of the tribs just to get the feeling right a bit.

you may get depressed if you do, just spent a week on the west side, the mouth of elk is about 5 ft wide.  some tribs aren't even making it to the lake. But, the walleyes are here!

It's funny, every single year for the 22 years I've been doing this (even dating back to some of the so called glory days in the 90s), I've heard at least one person say something along the lines of "I've never seen (insert a stream name here) so low" or "I've never seen (insert a stream name here) with so few fish"

Yea, everyone says that, but this year, I've had to start running out if Conneaut, as elk is too narrow for my boat, first time ever. And I helped my boys dig out the mouth of raccoon creek, as it was totally dammed up from the waves last week. Not saying it's the driest in history, but I'd say that's pretty dry.

Break out your Baitcasters and Little Cleos, everyone, going to be a lot of hungry staging fish that don't want to go up 1" deep water!

Fair points all around, guess I'm just saying for newbs, based on now, don't panic, or get discouraged, on what you might read.

That said, have heard about the drought, and rain is needed. Actually had to move our launch for the tournament to a different launch, since Chautauqua is down about three feet. There goes a bunch of my favorite docks

I'll say one thing the past few years have been super low water flows on Elk especially early Fall. Does it make a difference ? To me no , if the fish are there they will show up. The problem is they don't spread out throughout the whole stream. They stage on the lower deeper ends and get hammered by all the shoulder to shoulder fishermen. No rain means lower lake conditions and that means the creeks run out and lower that much faster even with rain. I believe lake Erie was 5 feet below normal depth last year so how long would good water hold in the tributaries .....not long.
Still you need good numbers fish to be in the lake to show up, something that has also been troubling the past five years. But there are always some to be caught.

Seen multiple pods heading up stream already. Hope the fish are as ready to run as we are to fish.

No worries. When Pa has no water large Ohio rivers get all the fish.Last year was a great example.Ohio stocks a spring run fish, yet the grand river had a **** ton of fall fish.Good flow brings home the strays.
