Good morning America, it's a beautiful day in Penn's Woods.

Clint just reading your last post tired me out, mercy sake putting brakes on two cars than butchering chickens, I hear a nap calling my name.  I hear you on the lack of a quality soaking rain, been the same around these parts too, though the beans and corn certainly seem to have sprung-up the past couple days.   Neighbors and I have been whacking the whistle pigs up til the past day or two but now the crops make it near impossible to even see the critters.

Two days ago I asked my wife to get a screw driver from my man cave and what didn't seem like but seconds, she was back telling me to go get my own screwdriver.  She said she opened the entry door to find it was partially blocked by a now, tipped over garbage can, could see insulation laying on the floor and there was a ruckus going on inside.

Man, I hate it when she is right; a quick inspection upon opening a overhead door revealed insulation, the garbage can, oil bottles, a Stihl blower, a small (12 drawer) organizer "once" filled with screws and small nails, as well as other items scattered about.  Some of the stuff was stored on shelves or window sills 3 to 4' off the floor.

Wasn't long of, quiet observation, before the face of a wood chuck peered from beneath a row of free standing metal shelves.  The critter had to have 'sneaked' into the garage through an open door the day before then wreaked havoc during the night, I'm thinking, maybe in revenge.

Say, did I ever tell ya about, the "Crimson Laser Sight" I installed on my 22 cal. pistol!  Boy, that thing works really well!!!

Don't laugh I have eaten it prepared like the first recipe. Was eating at my great uncles as a small child. Asked what it was and he said woodchuck.  Thought he was messing around........... he wasn't.  I really was not bad from what I remember.

Was in an upriver gin mill/eatery a couple of years back at lunch time in the very early King season- few folks in there but 5 obvious, half lit, daily regulars.
I ordered and my fried salt was delivered- tasted it- but just had my drink- food not fit for a dog.
As I sat there in disgust- no Kings either that AM -I over heard a reg ask his co regs if they had ever eaten a cat.
"dja ever eat  cat ??".
I perked up a bit and listened closely--
All FIVE had a story of cat eating,  by intent- being snowed in with starvation as the only option- and having been tricked into it.
The all agreed it was OK.
Imajine- they had all eaten it-yeeeep.
Kinda think bovine field splatter was rather abundant that day along with the salty morsels on my plate.
Salty was the reason I never went back there.
The conversation ,however, was rather unique.

Rained for about 30 minutes, just enough to turn it into a sauna when the sun came out. Better thsn a kick in the butt with a lead boot.    FYI the release has been cancelled for this weekend, sorry L13

We got enough rain locally to turn the trickles into streams, but how long that will last is doubtful as the long range forecast has temps pushing 100 over the weekend with NO rain is sight!

Just wondering if I may becoming paranoid () because I wonder; why I am seeing red maple leaves, yellowing beans fields and crickets already?  Oh yeah and corn that's like, umpteen feet high so what's happened to "knee high by 4th of July"?

Uhhh....... Never mind, no need to answer the paranoid thingy.

BTDT,I too have noticed that the crops, corn and beans, locally seem to be weathering the dry spell,I guess the few showers that have occurred were enough to keep them growing and we know the hot,Sunny days really push the corn. But the streams are trickles again.

Stream through my yard is bout dry-barely a little trickle- it was our pasture for over 200 years-more  likely 300 -and have never heard any 'family lore' of it going dry.
House next door was our second old farmhouse and built in 1750- the first house was next door to that and is now just  a few foundation stones here and there.
Nice to be back living where so many generations walked and worked.
Told the wife just dump my ashes out in the backyard likely-- illegal, so shhhhh.
Kinda like  those dedicated fisher folks dumped in the SR--oops--shhhh.

National Weather Service broadcasting "Severe Storm Warnings" of heavy rains and high winds, every half hour or so, as they track the storms across the Buckeye into the Keystone.  Sky to the southwest of me beginning to look very dark. Would much rather see a 24 hour soaker than a 5 min deluge but we will take it.  Beans, corn and other crops are high enough to capture the water and slow down the run off and evaporation rate when the Sun pops out and Inky Dinky Spider runs up the spout again.   Or, was that Itsy Bitsy Spider?   r3g3 beautiful picture, in my minds eye, of your homestead, I'd stick with the ash thingy, I would want the same. UH-OH!! More storm warnings, gotta get.    Tight lines and good times.

We have been lucky in my general area as we have gotten a few showers a few miles north and south missed. The swamp is still damp and the corn green, but the pastures are turning brown and the lawn is now crunchy. Wild berries are scarce as with the crab apples. We got enough hay for the winter plus. Just canned a few  beans and made some pickles, but at this point last year I was swimming in produce. This year it is a trickle. Cabbage has not really headed up good and only a very few red tomatoes so far

We lucked out and received a hour of easy rain and gentle rolling thunder. Not sure how those to my WSW made out where the more severe weather struck.

Nearly dark now, as I sit on the deck listening to the bawling by one of my neighbors cattle. Makes me wonder if it has become disoriented and lost sight of the herd in the pasture, now covered, in ground fog.

Many horse and buggies can be heard coming down the road. Dutchman and thier families returning home from festivities after church today. Not a good thing to be on a busy road with it nearly dark and heavy fog filling the low laying areas along the road.

Quite a light show as the Lightning Bugs begin to fly above the ground fog so I think it's time to sit back, enjoy the show and, thank Our Father in Heaven for letting me have another day.

I finally let the newest chickens out to roam today and of course 2 decided trees are better to roost in than a nice comfy coop.  Hope they find a good spot away from the critters. This is the first time I have had some go rouge when letting them out for the first time , usually keep them in the run for a few weeks and then let them out to roam without a hitch....

Its coming down moderately as we speak. I can hear the ground sighing in relief. My chickens made it through the night, now to wrangle them back in the coop for more roost training.

HT, stand-by for more of the same, after the storms pass hot and humid returns.  At least it did here.

Clint could hear his ground sigh as the rain fell and I heard the same when it rained here but now, I hear the grass growing.... sigh!!

NWS radar showing the Empire State getting some much needed rain in many areas with more coming off the lake over the city of Erie.

I don't mean to "rain on someones parade" but let it rain, let it rain........., let it rain.
