DOE TAG UPDATE

The following WMUs are sold out:  1B, 2F, 2G, 2H.  Makes me wonder, 1B for the past few years has been selling out in the 2 weeks residents were able to purchase their tags, yet there were over 3,000 tags available after the first week this year for non-residents.  In the past, did that many residents get their applications in that late that they needed that second week to secure a tag?

I would say they just sent in later.  2C is also sold out.

You know, the Game Commission site wouldn't let me copy and paste the results of the first week/round of the doe tag sales.  I almost wrote down all 23 WMUs and the results along with the remaining number of tags.  Wish I would have now.  Just hope there isn't any shenanigans going on.

From my understanding, it is illegal to shoot deer from a boat/canoe. Which leads me to ask, is it legal in PA to use a canoe to float into where I want to hunt as long as I'm not in it while hunting? Found an area I would like to try this fall that would be much easier to access that way rather than packing my climber in through the woods.

As long as said watercraft is not under power by a mechanical means it is legal to hunt out of. If not there'd be a lot of illegal duck hunters.

    I would point to PA Title 34 Section 2308 (a) (7)

Since it lists what is UNLAWFUL, I would consider it to be lawful to hunt from the water as long as mechanical motion has ceased.

On another note, I remember reading an article (possibly in Pa Game and Fish) about hunting some of the larger islands by floating the Allegheny river.

Caution moving the boat by "mechanical means" and having the weapon of choice loaded**.    Also, PFBC says the weapon should be cased unless the boat is not moving and well anchored.

    • "Never fire shots or release arrows until the vessel is stopped, the motor is turned off, and the vessel is secured or properly anchored. Always remain seated when shooting. Of course, you must possess a valid hunting license, tags, and permits for whatever you are hunting". ~ PFBC Boater safety course

**Exception; CC permit for non-sporting type weapons.

Just got an email from a hunting buddy that says the PGC double charged him for his DMA2 permit, which is really weird since on 8-1, a person could only buy one.

^^^^  Not only that I don't get tags for that area.  Would be pretty wild getting a doe and some cats at the same trip !!
