Breaking rubberbands

I can't for the life of me get my rubberbands to break when trolling big boards. We have amish outfitter boards, 500 braid. We run 3 rods per side and when the out side or middle rod goes off we have to reel the inside ones in first then reel the outside one in until it's about 20' from the boat then it will snap. I even snapped my 20# power pro before the rubberband broke on Saturday. We use #16 bands from office max. We also only go out if it's 2' or less so is there a "weaker" rubberbands that people are using?

I have this same problem.  The rubber bands that have been sitting in my boat's glove box for a year work better.  I just sort through them and discard the ones that appear to be too dry.  Stretch them out a bit to make sure they won't break easily.

Those #16 bands from office max are the worst!!! Ive had nothing but bad luck with them, even had to bring in 3 inside rods because the outside rod would release.

Try the amish outfitters rubber bands, they are like the size of a nickel, the break at just the right time.  If thats still an issue get a few dozen of the pilgrim releases(they are super cheap but work), then put the rubber band in the release, it will either break or come out.  Either way it works way better than those office max bands.

Not really sure what "clip" you mean. We use shower rings. If you're referring to "releases" then that's kinda what I'm trying to avoid (buying) a hundred releases would be expensive.

dakotab, ebay has them at a pretty good price.  do believe they're made somewhat locally.
