twin lakes ice
A bud was at both lakes to-day,there were guys fishing both lakes but the guys that he talked to were not catching anything. He was told that there was approx. 4" & the guys were spread out. As far as he could tell there was no open water. Also there is going to be a meeting of the TWFA at 4p.m. on Sun. You can get your new buttons & turn in any tags that were caught this fall. That is all that I know about the conditions. I am surprised that there is still ice. sam

Thanks Sam. A buddy of mine was going to try to fish Sunday there. I will tell him to reconsider going elsewhere. Warm the next couple days.

Went past Twin Lakes and Donegal today, both lakes mostly still iced over but not safe to fish. Actually some open water at Donegal near the main boat launch, one guy was fishing from shore. Temps are gonna drop this week but probably not long enough to make safe ice. Oh well, last 2 years were as good as it gets around here for ice fishing. I think it's good though to have a few weeks or so where you can't fish from shore or from the ice, give the fish a rest. Come spring time they'll be hungry and willing to bite.

come spring time 90%of the fish being caught in the lakes from shore have actually only been in the lake for maybe 3 weeks.

Stopped by Twin this afternoon. Nobody out on the lakes, I walked out on the upper lake, ice seemed fine. I didn't drill any holes so I'm not sure how thick the ice was. Few places where the shore ice is still thin. Just be careful out there though.
Now, does anybody know where I can get waxworms around Greensburg??

Just a little open water at the lower lake, the upper was still ice covered. Mammoth Park was about 75 percent open, few people fishing from shore today.

Why does Mammoth seem to thaw much earlier than TL each year?...Elevation...Or more sun affected areas?...

Dennis. I believe that because it is wide open to the sun & usually windier. Keystone State park is much the same, I would be surprised if there wasn't some open water there also. sam

Ed, Remember , Indian Lake is closed to all fishing from March 1rst to first day of Trout. It is not open like most of the other lakes are. sam

Lower ..90% open water...Got 3 fat 14 and 15 inch Trout today...same as where I left off in early Decemeber.....Did not go up to the Upper but I believe it is mostly open as well..

Dennis, I was at the upper lake, almost all open, Trout were hitting for the few of us there. Wind was a pain. Jimmy's was getting bait to-day, the shop at the top of the hill has minnows,but nothing else. sam
