So, I'm getting excited after reading the weather dudes forecast for today.

This Afternoon
A slight chance of showers between 3pm and 4pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a higA sligh near 75. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Yeah buddy, a slight (30%) chance of showers, I'm headin' for the lake............ til I check the radar!

I'm thinking there will be some water. Hoping there will be a good showing of fish .
I will start a Lake Report thread later when I get to a computer ( with pics :)

Check out the GLCFS Annual comparison of great lakes water temperature.

http://www.glerl.noa...re_years_o.html

It's surprising that Huron and Michigan both have warmer surface temperatures and whole lake temperatures then Lake Ontario this year. Looking back to 2013 and lake Ontario was warmer then both. Helps to explain why fishing may be off / different again this year.

I think we had a colder winter / spring around Lake Ontario compared to the other great lakes this year. With Ontario having the deepest average depth of the Great Lakes it took longer to drain the temperature out of the lake over the last two cold winters and takes longer to heat it back up (compared to the other lakes).

This has been one of the most helpful threads in many ways and I appreciate the local eye witness info now more then ever..
I did see a boat leaning hard to the starboard side in the marina last weekend and guessing it was due to water.. Pretty confident I'm all good and only a few days before I return but please keep the weather reports coming as they transpire in the future..

Thank You Much guys  !!!

I think I need to mainline some vitamin D. This crap keeps up, I'm gonna be like a thiamine deprived steelie. I ain't running to no river, just gonna   go  belly up  F'in winter had more sun. . My only hope  is that this water adds up to consistent  releases in the 500-750+ range instead of the pizz trickles we got last fall. It'd be nice to have the zoo spread a little, and some  space for the wild fish to redd up.

Forget what might happen in the Fall Charlie.  This rain keeps on messing up the local streams so you can't fish them now.  It seems another front rolls through just about the time they start to recede under the 1K mark.  Great if you like throwing streamers or dredging the bottom with nymphs but I prefer to work rising fish.

I would guess over two inches last evening/night. Was good worm picking though for a brief time between deluges.

yea we got hit pretty good overnight as well.. The falls behind my house were ripping this morning.
Did a survey at the JOB today on a containment site .. Estimation is we have over 4 million gallons of surface water pooled up in a 13 acre cell that should not be there, NOT good at all !!!

Things are looking a little better for the weekend... Cant wait to watch the fireworks sitting out on the Great Lake Ontario !!  NO RAIN, NO RAIN !!

Correction: there will be a scheduled release on July 4th and 5th as there is every year. Fichy, a 500-750 fall would be nice. Let's hope there's no flooding though. Wet summers like this often result in blow out fall months :(

My favorite nearby river, the Housatonic, is at 2680 CFS.  Perfect @ 750 but I won't see that until next week provided no more precipitation.
HT- nice weather on tap for your weekend on Lake O.  I saw a local report out of Oswego with the captain saying the brown trout fishing has been off the charts the last couple of days with some small kings in the mix.  Good luck.

According to the weather dude in the 'Burgh' this was the 8th wettest June on record.  Sure glad June 2015 didn't come as the 1st, I'd be building me an Ark....... don't-cha-know?

Hope yinz can get on them streams real soon.

So it absolutely pored in the 'cuse today. Looked like over an inch. Up here we did not fare quite as bad, but still got some.  We are very behind on our hay season and have not started yet.

On a side note I got an MRI today and will know why my neck still hurts in one week.

Very nice weekend and it was spent on farm machinery.  400 + bales put up today and it was pretty good stuff . Probably a third of our take this year done on one day due to the poor conditions so far. Bad year for hay due to the rain.  Biggest work out for the neck after a year. Feel ok for a 40+ year old.

Re:Weather thread 2015/07/12 20:48:07 (permalink)
Congrats on the hay Clint and you're right about the poor conditions.  Got 35 rolls from my field but, lost about an acre due to the ground being too soft and threat of sinking the equipment so, that hay will lay and rot.  Good green grass coming back already and we're hoping the rest of summer provides just enough rain to allow for another cutting.  Not getting excited just yet, we know what conditions can be expected late July and August and it doesn't include rain.

I'll be surprised if hay doesn't command a premium this year or at least used for an excuse to drive up milk and beef prices.  With the rain here and the drought out west, the better half and I are stocking up on frozen veggies and beef already.

Hope to supplement with vegetables from our garden and meat/fish from hunting and fishing which reminds me of a recent rant I posted about all the stupid hawks eating the small game from my newly mowed field.

Wishing you a quick recovery with your neck problems...............

Been there,  The price of beef is already high and has been.

Clint, hoping your present neck issues are nothing more than over exertion.  I hate to have to tell you this but aches and pains at +40 are nothing compared to those that come along at +60.  LOL.  The good thing about feeling pain is that you know you are still above ground.  A bended rod, screaming drag and a jumping fish is the best remedy I know for what ails you.

HT- hope to see some pictures from your latest venture on Lake O.

FYI- Kings have been taken in good numbers on the eastern end from Oswego to the SR.  It might be an indication that this year may be better than anticipated.  I hope so.

Clint hope your neck gets better and your hay prevails. . Hay prices I believe rose around here recently... Weather was outstanding tuna!!! Small mouth fishing is not where I want it to be but we had some action this weekend now that the river went down... 375 still a little high for my liking in regards to small mouth
