Anybody gettin' ready?

Been awhile since I tried my luck so, I'm gonna give it He!! this year!  Haven't been doing any scouting yet but will, as soon as this weather front changes.  Thought I'd try some late evening owl calls to start with or maybe some crow calls at day break.  If I locate some birds I'll eyeball the area for some set-up sights.  Thinking of a Remington 870 using 3" mags. through a full turkey choke.  Turkey call of choice is a Primos AlumiSlate using a carbon and/or hickory striker.  Standing-by for some suggestions and free advice.

Hunt til noon the first two weeks then...........................  fish til dark.

That is, if I get the house done.....................

Limited time to hunt, hunted Monday 4 hens a Jake and a long beard, show up at 6:30,long beard runs the Jake off,and struts till 8:00, very nerve racking hunt,he would not come closer than 50 yards but had the hens to 20-25 yards several times. Then the hens spit and he follows 2 out of the field into the woods. I moved 50 yards sit down hit the slate and bam, gobble, two calls later two fat Jake's at 20 yards. Was going to pass but work schedule said shoot. I did 16 lbs 4.5 beard. It's over but not to proud, that's the first Jake I've killed since the early 90's. Oh well no  CR in hunting. Good luck guys. My son on the big boy today, I hope he gets him.

Monday had 6 gobblers all over the place. ALL were on the other side of hollow. Got 2 hens in to 30 feet.
Tuesday worked gobblers from the roost.Took 30 minutes to see then at 150 yards. brought them into 20 yards.
4 hens 3 jakes. 1"--2"---3" beards ---I passed as I do have more time off.
Hope I don't regret it, as we all know young ones are more tender.....

Oh and side notes this one jake sounded like he was a mature bird that deep guttural grow type....shocked me.

AND there were 3 huge gobblers and 3 hens in my neighbors front yard when I got home......
