I'm in a painting phase ( friends boat ) and its difficult to get marine oil epoxy based paint to dry when the humidity is so high. Been doing a lot of it indoors but the stuff is so potent it gets the whole household pretty high in itself .
Cranked the woodstove yesterday and was able to drop the humidity from 70% down to 50% and it did dry over night.
This weather has sure made an easy project into a long drawn out process .
The goal and hope is that we get that boat done this weekend, take it out for a 3 hour tour then ship it back home to its owner so we can focus on the Daisy Mae. Only 2 weeks to go before those ocean run striped bass show up:)

It has been a great slow melt on the mighty Hudson which is a little off color ( brown ) but in fine shape ,,, baring any heavy rains ..

After a long tough Winter this Spring is a bust so far with the wet damp chilly weather. Like folks say though the melt was slow, however this is the price we pay for that.
Cant wait for some sunny nice days.

Out of the usgs gauges I check regularly, flows everywhere across the tug hill drainage basins are finally running fairly average rather than the below average flows we had the past month or so. It's interesting to see that 2012 takes the cake for record low flows for this time of year in 3 of the gauges I check. Ranging from 21-77 years of record... That was a disgusting season. Altmar looked like it did last weekend all year long. Fishing is reported to be tough right now. I hope it gets worse!!! Lol!!! :D

Raining hard with even harder rain coming from the west!!! Hopefully cafastrophy is not the end result. Natural flowing rivers will start rising as we speak... Larger basins will be more gradual with a peak occurring this Saturday most likely... Let's see what Brookfield does when it starts knocking at their gates... All honesty, stay away from the rivers and creeks this weekend period!!! Gonna be blownoht everywhere

Started downpour here about 6pm, still.
Tribs were starting to turn green but think they will be chocolate on my morning commute .
Thankfully , we have surpassed any winter ice jam floods. Streams rise / fall quick, mighty river well , that's another story.
Seems steelhead may be saved another spring spawning / drop back :)

Tuna you're spot on. Parking lots were absolutely empty. River down town Pulaski was colored up. There's gonna be bigger water in to may at this point. This will be 3 seasons in a row of healthy spawn/drop back conditions.

Will say though, hatchery is "still closed for the season", and I've yet to see a fish below beaver dam falls :/ something doesn't seem right. Hopefully it changes soon

Word from the Oak Orchard system is that there is s strong run in the main creek and one of the major tribs has spawners working  gravel.  The local ditch, which should be seeing returns from 15,000 planted, reminds me of SR back in the dead days, we have seen no big run of bright fish, and between TB and I we have been on this stream for at least a couple of hours nearly everyday since the snow started going and the stream opened up.  A couple of days had a few freshies mixed with the dark fish that braved the ice in the lower creek, word was there was a fair push two Saturday's ago, but this has been the lowest percentage season I've seen in years. (For those who think this board is SR only, this unburned spot is east of the Genesee, which is what this board covers.) We got 1/2 inch overnight and flows locally went up 25%, but now if the ditches are too high, the browns are attempting to crawl up the beaches chasing anything they can find, and a slow walk throwing cleos can put fish in the cooler without getting the feet wet.

I'm gonna check the beaver a few Times a week in the upcoming weeks. Very odd for there to not be fish in it yet. Lucky I would be casting Cleo's myself but still too much ice!!!

Re:Weather thread 2015/04/09 10:17:19 (permalink)
North branch of salmon and fish Creek flow gauges spiked higher than any other tug hill gauges. But they are dropping now. And we all know that red field reservoir gets water from many other sources besides north branch. Black river and north sandy seem to be stable... But the black takes a while to peak in Watertown. Long story short, our neck of the woods got the brunt of yesterdays rain based on the gauges from the central and lower tug basin. My creeks shot up last night but were waning already this morning. Let's see what happens at the dam... Near 2k at pineville and probably pushing 3k downtown Pulaski. If anything it may go up this weekend but definitely not down any time soon. Drift boats will prevail... Bank anglers should really question whether the trip is worth it or not

Re:Weather thread 2015/04/09 17:38:08 (permalink)
NWS says there is still 20-40" of snow up on the hill, the bottom of that has to be pretty much ice, that's a lot of water still to come.

We have not seen the deads in the stream, but we have not seen a lot of live ones either, that could say they bit the big one in the lake over winter.  Ice on IBay just went out, so if we don't see some soon, they are not coming.   I would be checking redd areas tomorrow after work, but there is a wind warning down here that will make the woods a dangerous place to be tomorrow.

Yes none for me please. I may try Selkirk or Mexico on the beach though if the ice is gone in the next few days

From pics I got today, little salmon is open at Mexico launch out to break wall. For sure worth a try there or off the pier at Selkirk if that's open.
Lets hope these rainy days are over for awhile after today.
Seems like we may see some much needed sunshine over the weekend but it going to be sloppy around the house indeed

Drove over little salmon yesterday in little Texas and it was juicing through the seaway trail and muddy. Steady/brutal East winds 2 days in a row may have cleared a lot of ice up but based on my last trip to Selkirk 2 weeks ago I would be surprised if there's not still 5+ foot of ice build up on the selkirk pier... Little salmon may be different though. Clint, I'll try to check Selkirk for you if I get a chance later today and let you know.

The SR over 2 grand, and all my favorite lakes for the Vt. opener still have 3-4 inches of ice.  Oh well.  It was in the high 80's down at the river in the Grand Canyon. We got major sun. 10 days without rain, 200 postcard -like pics, 75+ bows and browns from 14-18" from the San Juan , and saw lots of  wildlife and wild flowers. It was tough coming home; made tougher by the massive storms in the mid-west. We got stuck on the tarmac waiting for takeoff for 3 hours in Chicago. The landing there  nearly knocked my teeth out. Albequerque was typical blue sky and 73 when we left. The Hudson might get a visit from me on Sunday. Walleyes in a few spots where I can reach them in the high water. Looking good  for the stripes, HT.  I'll put up a report when I can deal with posting pics here- takes major effort for me on this site. Hope some got out for the NY trout  opener. I know Uglyfish's Dad got a good one.

The report from Ohio is rain, high water and all major streams are blown........but I snuck off to a trib to the Grand River and caught a million suckers and about 10 steelhead, lost about a equal amount of steel. What was nice is that I had a spot all to myself for about 5 hrs and it was great to have the solitude.
Before today I fished Monday and Wed and caught ONE!Not going out over the weekend but will hit it again Monday.
That sounds like a great time Charlie!!!!

SR at bout 3400-  guess its thaw time for sure-weather and poor fishing holding me back big time -darn.

Ct opened yesterday and spent a few hours without a bite on my favorite stream--put and take fishing -but only saw 3 fish- lousy stocking job.
Very few fishing except for popular ponds.
OH -saw a guy on the stream with a 12 inch sucker- said the Trout fishing was OK and he had just caught that one.
His kid was with him and throwing rocks in the stream-that's when I boogied out for some yard work.
Couple of weeks and all the weekend warriors will be finished and the real fishing can begin.

Good for you clint... Great to hear jack!!! Trevor , dont know for sure but your secret spot may be prime right now ;)

77 as a high today has tug flow gauges going absolute vertical. Lake region is officially thawed... Albion/Altmar and further north east still holding snow... Tug is draining fast now though... On the up side with out rain we "should" be OK floodwise.... But let's see what happens.

Well not too bad, but water got bumped up to 3500... A week and a half ago there was 5 k rolling through the north branch while the upper reservoir was still frozen. Reservoir is full. Rain shouldn't be too bad to cause anything catastrophic but you can more or less kiss your dropbacks goodbye. They've gotten in and out spawning wise taking care of business real quick. Elevated flows are gonna make them disappear even faster
