Tuna if the rivers too crowded you can help me knock some trees down on Friday :)

Db, If in fact I take that ride (no new truck till Monday) and the river is to crowded I like the sounds of KNOCKING trees down LOL.. I wouldn't count on it though, I'm sure lower river would have plenty space..

Someday I will get my priorities straight as you, lol
Db :knock trees down OR go fishing
Tuna : put up siding, install bathroom, tear out man cave, finish up at least 1 of the 3 boats in my yard on & on OR GO FISHING  ...  LMAO,
Ya'll know what I will be doing somewhere Friday :)

Tuna I think the ice might still be okay as most of the reservoirs and ponds in my area are still locked up.  Very little open water on some of the bigger impoundments.

A brutally cold opening day to the 2015 Trout Season with the air temperature a brisk 26 degrees.
I was at my favorite early season spot by 6:15 this morning without another car in sight.  Made my first cast with high hopes before 6:30 but the mornings results was not what I had hoped for.  Took the skunk after working the hole and tail out until 9:00 AM without a bump, roll or follow.  The water temperature was 36 degrees and freezing guides had to be cleared frequently.
Stopped at a couple of other spots but the results were the same.  I can't say that I feel bad because other people weren't having any success either.  We need a serious change in this present weather pattern to wake up the fishy's so Gerry can have some fun.
Nice to get out on the water regardless as it signifies the start of a new season.

So glad to hear of a NY opening trout season report.
Seen NO cars on the usual streams today in my travels. It's becoming a lost tradition in my parts and memories are all I have to reflect on.
Kudos to you Gerry, the BWO's and Hendricksons will come out and play I hope you do.

Your right on the Ice. LG has plenty, shoreline is getting dicey but sure I could get on .
Now I'm getting confused , which way to go..

I made it up for a bit over an hour tonight after work. It was not bad , but I guess a few were above in the UFZ. I got a quick head shake and then  a decent fight. There were a few hook UPS on the other side.  There are fish spawning right off the bank and one a hole literally treble hook ripped it off the bed. I offered him a few words of encouragement that he did not like.........

Nice deal Clint! I saw 3 guys standing shoulder to shoulder on the wall above the back channel behind the theatre in town. Making short quick drifts. In 350 cfs... What do you think they were doing in that akmost stagnant water???

The latest weather report leans towards a continuation of gradual thaw. Showers tonight... With a very low frozen reservoir we are still a ways away from "big" water in my opinion. What a hard winter this was folks. Unbelievable. One thing that will happen is the ice pack will soften quite a bit.

Andy-been reading 350 for flow but if they were lifting in the channel at the needle it makes me think of at least 5 or 6 hundred to put a flow in there.

Trev pineville has been over 500 for some time so an easy 600+ downtown. that back channel has little water coming through but enough for them to navigate. I would assume anything in there is seeking shelter. Frikkin last resort attempt on their part after not Hooking anything all day. I'm surprised they've been running 350 For so long. Saw pics of the reservoir and its near dry and frozen

Went back up today and the bite was much tougher. Nothing for me today and only a few hooked. By afternoon it did not feel 63  and it started to sprinkle at around 630

Clint sorry to hear about the tough bite
I marked 59 today. And it felt great!!! T shirt from mid at til sunset. Raining steady right now. Juices are flowing everywhere! Will take a little while to it to catch up with the mighty salmon river tail water system though

Fish creek usgs gauge is ice bound still. Not good!!! I fear for ice damming on certain localities. Hopefully the rain stays light. North sandy is shooting straight up in a vertical line right now.

River is up to 600+ at pineville but well below the 1500 average flow for today. Even 30% lower than the 25th percentile of records taken. No. San. Is going vertical still. Water is flowing everywhere... Spring is here!!!

It was good to get out. We lost a TON of snow the last few days. Frolics I have seen the rest is still a bit low. May get out on Sunday, being easter the crowds may be down.

800+ in pineville...today's mean average in records time is 1700 cfs. North sandy may crest today at 3000... Fish creek gauge still ice bound. Cold water funk is gonna kill the weekend bite for the hundreds of anglers out and about. Hopefully brookfield will be on top if this water once it s at the dam. Beautiful yssterday!!! Worked outside with a t shirt all day and made a lot of progress with yard. Windy and snowing right now. Could see 2-4 inches. Its a matter of days before the river goes up up up!!!

I am just starting to see my yard, but no more. The weather outside is frightful. Snowing pretty hard at right around 32 degrees. We have I would guess an inch o two of new snow. The wind gusts are enough to make the house creek and groan. We usually build our pasture fence this weekend and put cows out next or weekend after. Not this year.

Re:Weather thread 2015/04/04 09:15:09 (permalink)
32 degrees F. and the ground is white with a light dusting of wet snow here, in my little piece of Penn's Woods.  Wind is light and variable with signs of changing from the North, to the West.  Weather dude says a high of 42 degrees for me today with some sun this afternoon. That's 20 degrees (+/-) colder than the past two days.  Sort of glad the weather changed a bit as I've been power washing the log adobe in preparation of a fresh oiling.  I'm quite sure the house wasn't near as big, when I did this four years ago.

Driveway has finally leveled with the surrounding ground giving indication that, the frost has "left the building".  Neighbor had to halt the installation of new post and wire around a section of pasture because the ground is just too wet.  He was hoping to do some drainage work in the area while the ground was frozen this past winter but, the depth of the snow made it impractical.

Good news is, I heard the song of the 'Peep Frogs' coming from the beaver ponds, for the first time, last night.  Yeah......... I did!

Happy Easter folks!

Never did make it to any watershed yesterday.. Friend stopped over and we played work on boats in the mud but bright sunshine.. Wife is freaking about the heavy smell of marine paint emitting from my workshop.. Oh well,.
Rained hard overnight and it's clear but windy as all heck outside.. Have a feeling the cover will be off the big boat wither I want it to or not.
Gotta run, newborn grand daughter just arrived ..

Congrats HT!

Have been pounding the local ditch 1.5-3 hours per day, after work, fish here and there, none to bank with the high flows and old legs, the suckers started yesterday, which by old wives tale says the steelies are almost done, have not seen a  lot of bright fish.  Water is roaring after 1/4" of rain last night.  Did Naples for the opener, no water and no fish, quit before noon and went back to LO tribbing for the evening.  Was going back today, but word from down south was total blow out, may try tomorrow PM, if I can get a bye on the  Easter family sauce dipping.  Trying to get stuff done so I can get out next weekend.

A blessed and peaceful Easter to all!

That's great your getting to wet a line L-13.. I haven't done squat since undertaking projects last week.
Thanks for the welcome of the newborn, it's grandchild #5 and #6 is on the way in 7 months..

So I now have 3 boats(2 are mine), 2 kayaks, a canoe and about a dozen inflatables kicking around the compound.
Friend dropped off his 16' backtroller sea nymph for a complete refab last weekend.. The goal is to get er' done and splashdown  by next weekend . All in between my boats and various projects.. Just need some sunshine and no rain but by the looks of things it's not gonna happen this coming week, ah well we shall weather the storm..
Obviously, cold beverages are needed for all this work, I think last weekend was like 108..

And we (I) better hustle because the first striper was reported caught out back yesterday !!!!

Go get'em Jack !!!!

Dam release reported to be bout 1250 - suppose this will mean close to 2000 in lower river- oh well, tough murky fishing but at least the deads will wash out.
Likely bring in any  lates kinda soon and  speed up the spawn IMHO.

Yes 1700 at Pineville, this should stop the carnage and speed up the spawn. I may go way up in I the week with some SRS's and see what is going on. The reservoir went up six feet in to or three days according to my aunt ho lives up there.

Lake region should be thawed out completely snow wise in the next day or two. Thick dew this morning... No frost... Spring has sprung. A lot of snow holding in eastern Albion and north and east of... We really lucked out in regards to snow thaw. Its been extremely gradual for the past month or so... Higher water still to come with the mighty salmon...but nothing compared to what it could've been

While it has been a very good winter thaw, I'm sick of this dreary cool weather pattern. Looking at 40's and rain everyday through Sunday .
ENOUGH already bring out the SUN !!!
Sorry, little grumpy because this weather is impeding my boat progress

Sorry to hear tuna. From Thursday on we're looking to be in the 50's and 60's from there on. Although its still mud season it hasn't been too bad at my house as thawing has been in phases and I've been staging my outdoor work accordingly so. Anywhere with snow piles or cover at this point is saturated though...up on old 13 in Albion is a different story. A lot of snow cover there. Driveway is the only thing bare. Good luck with the boat tuna.
