I was there yesterday, the lake is still locked up, from Ohio to PA. The only open water I saw was at the spillway or the bridges on the causeway. The boat docks at Linesville and Espyville are still locked in ice.

My brother and I ice fished south of the causeway and north of Jamestown on Sunday evening. Getting out the first hundred yards was harry, however the ice over deeper water was fine (about 10"). Coming back in after dark was tricky as it had deteriorated a bit more in the wind. I used the spud bar and we walked around like in a maze trying to stay on top. We were not frightened as we were only over about 3' of water, many places two good hits with spud was all it would take, then back up and circle. Where a little snow hard ice.

I'm Done! Equipment is put away.
PS Three eyes, and lost a few. Most in 4' of water, so what does that suggest. All males but milt was still kind of firm

A possible under ice spawn?  Just hope it doesn't go from 45 to 80 in the matter of weeks!

Oldtimers say... " Peepers have to look through glass (ice) 3 times before Spring is here."
I'm not sure that is always true but it's an interesting saying.

BTDT, weather for next 10 or 14 days looks better for fishin than oiling a house. rain most days with very short dry periods mixed in. i think i remember a can , in fine print said" it,s gonna rain, dummy, go fishin". the brand name excapes me, but i,m sure i saw it somewhere. lol wire

Sound advice Wire, I'm searching the web for that product(lol).

I know automobiles require a routine change but, leave it to me to buy a house that requires a oil change.

I trust all has been well and your trying out that new trolling motor.

Wirenut, as of this writing, power washing of the house is complete (with any luck, it'll take a week or two to dry) so, it's off to washing and prepping the boat tomorrow.  Need to change the oil (dang there's a haunting word) in the motors, replace two rub rail end caps, and install a couple of 12 volt power outlets.  I'm thinkin', maybe four hours tops and, the boat will be ready.  Good thing too cause, I'm running out of stories about live bait!

I'm thinking Shenango this coming Sunday and Pymy Mon., Tue., Wed., Thur., Fri., then back to Shenango for Sat. and Sun.  Of course, weather permitting I may have to, spend a hour or two, applying oil to the house.  BUT, only if the fish aren't biting.

Congratulations on the new rig, sounds really nice.

PS. Those rain thingys above the windows are neat!

Yep....Yep, level looking good but, unfortunately, the lake is being wind whipped today (Friday) and the water looks to be somewhat muddy especially along the shorelines at the Rt. 18 causeway.  Boat docks are still sitting in the parking lot at the Clark launch sight off of Rt. 18.

Shouldn't pose a problem launching if ya have a buddy along.  (hint..... Hint)

    BOAT DOCKS ARE IN...........

    At least at Jamestown.....

Stopped at a couple boat dealerships (drool) and saw some beautiful rigs (slobber) in the Jamestown, PA. area. Wife told me to pick one out (pant) and after a couple walk a rounds I pointed to a 17 footer sporting a 70hp engine.

Good; she said, that'll give you something to dream about!

    I gotta go..........

Well..... dag-nab-it it's raining and I was all prepared to hit the lake this afternoon.  I'm not a fair weather angler, mind ya.  I just prefer to keep the water outside the boat; I've left the plug out tooooooo many times and don't care for wet feet!

    Stay tuned!

    Interesting.........  Very interesting!

Wirenut I've not seen any eggs and only one crappie I caught so far looked like it may have just spawned.  The gills, on the other hand look fat with roe and/or are spraying as they were C/R.  You certainly have a legitimate question and unlike me (left the door open there(lol))  I hope somebody, may have a good answer .  I'm certainly going to stay tuned!

Those fish are reabsorbing their eggs now. Hopefully they had a good spawn this year. Wont know for sure til around October when the 3 and 4" fish start showing up. You can smell when they are reabsorbing their eggs. They stink when you're cleaning them. Rotten egg smell.
