Did not get as warm as expected and no rain to speak of. 33 did feel nice though. Next week looks good. Now my sister has a drip and so does dad. Got his ice off the edge.

Presently ducking the storm but, it's close, I think I can see it snowing at my neighbors place about 1/2 mile to my south.  Do yinz think if, I get all my fans and point them toward the direction of the storm I can keep it at bay? (LOL) Sign me............... desperate!

I can't imagine the ice damming that is beginning to set up on tug hill. Lower river showed signs of ice damming from today's warm spell... (32 or 33 at best)... It was 28 when I went to work and 29 when I got home. The ice storm from last night has coated a crusty glaze. We have the true definition of snow/ice pack right now. Our peak snow depths are going to wane from here due to packing and slow melting. I must walk out back as my immediate backyard has about 4 foot. I'd be shocked if I don't have 5-6 foot out in the brush fields behind my pond. Its always deeper back there.

Dimebrite, speaking of the field snow, if ya promise not to tell anybody, I'll tell you about a guy going to get a load of firewood. This guy, needed to cut down a dead stand for some firewood to heat his mancave. So he jumped on his FWD tractor and started across the field toward the woods. The End.

footnote: (1) Spring will be here soon and I think I can get her out then.
(2) Expecting the mancave to warm, somewhat, at that time, also.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Too bad for your friend. Although, if you plow your way in at slight angles from left to right at 10-20 foot intervals you can have better luck.. And if you have a front bucket you can push yourself out and use the backhoe to swing your back end from left to right.... I only know because I've BTDT... ;)... Keep warm people

Well I will say it felt nice around here yesterday with only a light jacket on. Not sure of the high but there was snow melt and free flowing water again.
Today is a bit cooler at around 25 deg now but it really don't feel cold.
Tomorrow looks like plenty sunshine , light wind ( below 5 ) and an expected high around 32. I bet it will feel much warmer and am going to try for some perchin after work.
The long range for next week is showing mostly above 32 , mostly low 40's with a 50 thrown in there.

I crawled under the cover of the boat yesterday and she looked good. As soon as daylight savings kicks in and am able, the cover will come off.
Some new toys to install have arrived :
Lowrance elite 7 HDI fish finder/ GPS
Another rocket launcher for the hardtop

In route is a kenwood stereo system with 400 watt amp and 6 - 6" speakers .
The Mae will surly rock the waters this season.
Enough already with winter, its time for the spring dance to begin !!!!

-13 this a.m. ...although mederation is on the way, I find it hard to believe anything is gonna happen fast with the frozen lake and deep/dense ice/snow pack we have. I predict 1000+ cfs by 4th week of march... Then its natures choice from there on. I'm guessing sub freezing overnights in to middle of April. Keep the faith folks

Greetings and Salutations (Winter) Weather Fans,

Stepped from the bedroom into the living area filled with a gorgeous warm glow, from orange sun beams, streaming through the glass.
Thought I was dreaming while sleepwalking so, I went back to bed.

My unofficial low temp. recorded on, my official "Weather Channel Weather Station", hit -15 degrees F. at 6:00am this morning.
Bit nippy here in my area of Penn's woods.  Thank goodness the Accu Weather dude said it would only hit -4 degrees F. for a low!

Not to worry, the sun is casting rays of golden light through my windows as, I sit here drinking coffee while conversing with good people.

Dime, when I was hauling freight across the Keystone, I was always amazed at the temperature variances I would see on my digital thermometer readout.  Just a short distance of 1/2 mile over the rolling terrain would show big changes with the readings.  I can remember my folks referring to Dubois, PA. as being the refrigerator of PA. and Bradford being the freezer.  Seemed like those two areas were always much colder then the rest of the state due to their location.   You know what they say about.......Location, location, location (lol).

Full moon and clear skies last night. I didn't check the dawn temp but at 9 am it was zero. No wind and super sunshine , it sure felt warm. Wish all the days of zero were like that.
Now it's still in the teens but feels balmy .
Ah , spring is near and I'd have to think the SR will become VERY busy

I can recall many a opening trout 4/1 in whiteout snow covered banks.. Even in the ADK's May is not unusual to have snow.. Heck even Rob is aware of Memorial day records.. A little flurry or wet snow now don't really bother me much now... Spring is NEAR, Know why ?
The Mighty Hudson started pulling the Ice away from it's banks. The Tribs flowing into it are showing more open water then yesterday. I went to walk out back to cut some firewood and the snow would not support my scrawny weight (abort)..

Really blew my chance for an afternoon/evening perch hunt.. Might not get out at all this weekend.. Yup, when I start to bail on hardwater,,,, Spring is Near !!

Well a good day today. Drove the back way home and saw 2 collapsed pole barns and one of the round metal buildings collapsed tonight . Snow came off the front of my barn, but still 3 feet on the back side. I got the first 4 feet off last weekend and got about another 6 feet off tonight. Only about 4 feet on the peak left. One day in the 40's and it will go. Feel much better now. I have next Wednesday off and it looks great. Mid 40's and sunny, now where to go.........

Re:Weather thread 2015/03/07 18:32:09 (permalink)
Sitting here in my favorite deer stand waiting for the snow to start melting and listening to reruns of the weather forecast on my official "Weather Channel Weather Alert Radio".  Forecast calling for temperatures to be in the mid 40s but, now under partly to cloudy skies. (pretty sure it started out sunny skies)  Not liking the extended forecast for Friday and Saturday as I'm hearing 50% chance of rain, possibly through the weekend.  Not a good thing in my book as the rain will add weight to any roof still bearing heavy snow, that is just wetter and more compact because of  slower melting. ( umm.. did I say that right?)

Not going to be a good thing for the rivers and creeks if the chance for rain increases along with duration and amount.  Surely, will create some 'blowouts', ice damming, and flooding.  Here's hoping the weather dudes are, as they were with this weekends early forecast, WRONG!

Think Spring and turn them clocks back before going nighty night.

It just won't let go. Snowing all morning but temp is 32.
Last of firewood scraps just went on. Might get some odd ball chunks from Rob this week.
Another factor into the spring equation is my indoor thermometer . All winter long without the woodstove going it has read 38 degs. ( it gets up to 70 once fire is lit).
Well all last week( no heat ) it has read 40. This morning it read 42.
Moving in the right direction for sure.
Off to crawling under the crawl space of moms bathroom .

Right now the temp is 45 with partial sunshine, tonight light freezing rain after midnight. After tonight the temps will be in the mid 40's and up to mid 50's during the day and low 30's at night on the ten day.I'm thinking of trying a day or two of local fly fishing at a C&R on the Little Lehigh.
Rich, inside temps in the 30's,don't you have central heat besides the wood stove?

Sputtering snow and sun. And the temp is 30.
Windy as everything though. Worked on the tractor a bit and it is starting to bleed at the injectors, think it is air locked. Got plenty of wood for another month so at least that.is good

Jack, main house has boiler ( new) & pellet stove.. Addition 38x60 ( our new pad ) has pellet stove primary / electric baseboard back up ( yuck) .
Additional addition 28x60 ( man cave ) woodstove only = 38 degs.
I put snowshoes on, grabbed sled and chainsaw after finishing up my project and cut some standing dead maple, not rotten, that will give me a good weeks burn.
It was 73 out there today.
Even the boat wanted out as the cover was flapping :)
Going to make after work ice trips as daylight lasts till 7:30 now.

Old man winter finally bit me on the behind the other day after the one day thaw then brutal freeze I woke up to ice damage on the living room ceiling and upper wall.  My efforts to keep the gutters and roof clear above the soffit failed this time around.  Ice dams are a perpetual problem in the front of the house with a western afternoon sun contributing to a thaw and refreeze.  Insurance adjuster will be here tomorrow to assess the damage.

Took a walk out back today and measured standing snow between 33 and 47 inches. Its settled quite a bit in the past 2 weeks. I imagine it was 5+ foot standing before settiling took place. We hit 33 today for a minute but I think it was sun induced as it mostly read 28/29 and the village thermometer did not go above 30 this afternoon. And yes snow this morning. Jack enjoy your trout outting. I may have to do one myself this week
