I checked a couple holes others had drilled today at both lakes. Saw about 3-5" clear ice with about 1" white ice on top. Around 2" slush on top of that. All measurements are estimated . saw a few people out on each lake. Didn't get any reports. I'll give it some time to build a bit before I give it a go personally.

Lol! Well you guys have fun while it lasts. I took a walk around the lake the other week and was surprised to see bow many guys were fishing. Seems intriguing but im just not a trout or panfish guy.

Jug, Although it doesn't happen often, we have caught a few Carp while ice fishing some coves at Twin, both lakes. Almost always there is some open water to fish in our area by Feb. 28th if you are willing to look around.  sam

Not looking like it this year Sam...after a slight warm up this weekend it is back to overnight single digits and low teens for yet another week...I have had quite enough of it....

Dennis, You may be right. I just came back from Lower Twin, there were about a dozen guys out, there is approx. 8" of ice with about 1-2" of water on top.Didn't see any cracks or hear any cracking. Talked to one guy that was on the ice & he said it was pretty good ice & that he & his buddy got a few trout & some panfish. He was walking around with a flasher til he marked fish. I guess that worked because of the water on top of the ice. It looked like it was pretty sloppy fishing because of the water. There was no-one on the upper lake when I checked.  sam

Sam...it is getting worse!!! Single digit lows coming up for as far as the eye can see....I remember in my first 7 years here a low below 10 happened about 4 times per winter....Now it is regular....Have to face the fact...the Great lakes is the new Arctic Circle....For the second winter in a row...we are averaging lower readings than Southern Alaska...wonderful...just wonderful...Sam...LOL..See you at TL in May sometime...if we are lucky...

Was at Twin Lakes (lower) for several hours this morning. 11" of ice with a few inches of slushy snow on top.  Marking fish but they wouldn't bite. 1 small bluegill. About a dozen guys there, didn't see much action.

I see on the stocking list that both lakes are getting stocked this year. I'm pretty sure that has been the standard. ?  It was stocked by the fish commission last October. Not sure when the club last stocked it.

should be some open water this weekend near any water that runs into it. I was there 2 days ago the ice was unsafe from all the rain we got that day and the crick that runs into lower lake almost had a spot cleared to fish in.

cant wait to see some open water and take the boat out again.
