Elk Creek

Will Elk be frozen tomorrow?  Seems to be the only stream/river with fishable flows, trying to decide whether I should make the drive tomorrow or not... thanks for the help!

Yes. It will be frozen. It is 15 degrees here and and snowing. Colder and more snow tonight.
Curious to know what flow charts you are using. Brandy Run on Elk is not much help and Walnut has been shut down since January 1. Hence the perpetual 26 cfs on riverboss.

Thanks man.  I'm looking at Riverboss, I was referring to the Ohio and NY streams that are all raging.

Ever fish the tribs with air temps in the lower 20's or teens?

I have a couple times several years ago.  I can handle iced guides once in awhile, but picking ice off of my line and bait just drives me nuts.  Not to mention dealing with slush and ice on the water all day.  Even if you could find some open water to fish - and you probably could find a little bit somewhere - that's what you'd be dealing with.

If I had a totally free day tomorrow to do whatever I wanted, driving 2 hours to fish in Erie would not be on my to do list.

I planned to come up Wednesday before work, but now I'm not due to air temps in teens to single digits. I don't need to fish for steel that bad!

I have fished it where I have had to break ice going up stream and then fish down. Don't really mind the cold, but it is just plain ugly out.

Be gentle with them they are the future! And if you notice more than a few move up or downstream.
