From what I see not much coming our way until Friday and then only a few inches. Different sites have different numbers, but I am not expecting more than 8 inches or so.

After a 3 day warning with no snow at all... They've decided to issue another warning which is specific for oswego county saying Thursday afternoon in to Friday a heavy band will move south across the whole county. 2-3 foot in the persistent bands... Who the eff knows????

HT I actually walked on a shelf for about 5 feet before it broke so it is coming. Yea who does know, but I think this one has us pegged. Not as much as up north, but it is a coming.

The wind missed you this time dime but this could have been your commute.

Hard to be perfect when guessing the exact track of a storm.
5 miles away they had inches and 20 barely a ground covering.

Can you really blame them for trying to let people know it very possibly might be life threatening?

I  don't think holding ones breath is in order with the forecast the next week.

Twobob I don't recall blaming anyone for anything. Was just saying "who knows"... Because it changes with the wind...

4 days ago you seemed to have thought they were blowing smoke about the forecast though. Why a change of heart now? Not arguing bud... Just talking.

Don't remember ever thinking they were blowing smoke.

Wasn't trying to argue but you seemed to poo poo there dire predictions.
This time they were wrong in your area.
Just trying to point out why they do it.
Would anyone want a couple trout bums in a chevy vega to be heading into something like that fir no more reason than to catch a fish.

Just pointing out the real danger involved with lake effect and that your area can be brutal just like off of Erie.

I look at the weather prognostications this way, if the predictions come to pass I was forewarned and if they don't, happy days.  Lake effect is too unpredictable to fuss over but it's nice to be prepared.

That's the way I feel, if I get hit at least I knew, if not I count my lucky stars. Been more than once I woke up to snow to my knees without warning.

When the weatherman swings and misses its a good thing.  If nothing else they provide comic relief to an otherwise depressing news hour.  I'll take their wayward predictions any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Weather has been the most talked about topic since before doin it was doin it!!! And yes rt, I would either be fired, or to blame for explosions, flooding, death, serious injury or mere thousands to possible millions of dollars in damage if I did my job wrong :)

Re:Weather thread 2014/11/22 10:48:25 (permalink)
Just checked the official snow fall totals for NY state this past week. Redfield ranked in the middle with 34 inches. Don't know the level of the reservoir but I do know the ground was rather drenched for about 4 days before the freeze up ...

They believe the town of cheektowaga or surrounding areas may break the state record for most snow in 24 hours with 65 inches. Watertown held it with 49 inches... Although town of montague was shot down quite a few years ago with z measurement of 77 inches which would of been a national record... The buffalo storm doesn't even come close to breaking the total snow fall record from 1 event which red field holds at 144 inches... Parish received 100 inches from that one as well. I remember digging out my camp that year (2007) for two days straight with a front load tractor bucket. It was a heavily compacted 5-6 foot by the time we got to it (2 days after the event) with a foot of powder on top and it snowed the entire two days. Don't know for sure, but I don't believe any deaths from that one.

Had some free time and took a ride. Stayed on the south side of the upper res... Flood waters are definitely in the making with the snow fall up there... Freezing rain started setting in around 3pm.... Warmer now... Let's see what Happens.

Only saw through the woods from a distance from the south side.Had planned on it but more or less took a joy ride for scenery. Don't think its full but there's a good amount of snow and I'm sure twice as much to the north of it. North sandy and fish creek are already going vertical on the charts... North branch salmon river looks like its slowly starting. May take another ride today to check out the spill gates and north side...

Re:Weather thread 2014/11/23 07:57:22 (permalink)
That is what I was thinking.
The steady 350 has kept it at a level where 750 for a few days with maybe 1100 at the end should keep from needing to dump it like last fall.

Once they acclimate the fishing could be great.
(For winter fish)

Read clints report.
Looks like it may have chilled down to a point where their holding preferences have changed.
Yer on fichy we need your reports.

I agree with fish in the system settling... But hot fish are still to come in to and through december.. Small windows to catch them while they're hot though...

Quite the deference in weather from a chilly 12 degs yesterday. Strong winds in afternoon the warm front and lots of rain overnight . Had a roaring fire going until the rains put us to bed around 9 pm with a 36 degs outside.
Woke up to clouds and lots of melted snow, still just enough left for brown bodies to stick out though.
Now it's a calm 46 degs and climbing .
Hope the ice comes back soon !! This deer hunting stuff is boring ..

HT,I hope the ice stays away until Jan. as I'll be in Ohio and Pa looking for some Steel. As I write this I'm sitting in the daughters house looking at the flow gauges to see if I have a chance of finding fishable water tomorrow in the balmy temps.Yesterday everything was locked in ice and today everything is very high, but I'm going to try it tomorrow somewhere on a Pa trib, chances are slim but I'm going unless it pours tonight then it'll be flood city.

Enjoy the time and hope you get to fish some waters Jack,
It's supposed to rain heavy up here to tonight just off the lake effect , snow belt line.
Might be my last hunt today with a zillion things to do at home before winter really sets in.
Was on the ice Dec -5th last year so yea I'm already getting ansi .
Only 3 in the freezer so far really ain't gonna cut it to split between 5 ppl so who knows, I may be back next week.

Again good luck to all the fishers out there .
