He was seeking and on the move. Freshened up his final scrape before I aced him at 20 yards. Walked less then 50 yards, grunted and expired right in front of me. What a trophy! Been hunting hard for over 15 years to get one this big loving every minute of it,

Anyone know of any good taxidermist near pittsburgh? How long might that take I've heard up to a year.

    Google 'Brians Creative Wildlife/Franklin, PA.'

Your gonna want a good job on that trophy. You may not want to go to Franklin to have it mounted but, Brian can and will recommend a good taxidermist. Brian is a class A act and his work is beyond words. Most likely he wouldn't get your mount finished for a couple of years as he is just that busy. BUT, he can make recommendations I am sure. It's worth a phone call as that buck deserves to be mounted right. Make sure you have the cape done properly.

If you call, tell Brian that an idiot who once ran the Allegheny in a jet boat says hello.

    Congrats on a great buck!

I had my last buck done by Tim Durochia in Creighton.  I was really happy with his work.  The cost was pretty reasonable and he turned it around in about 8 months for me.  I don't think his website is working, but his phone number is on this link:  http://www.hotfrog.com/Companies/Durochia-Taxidermy

I can send you some pictures of the buck he did for me if you are interested.

I second Been There Done That's suggestion on Brian in Franklin. I have known him since he was a kid wanting to be a taxidermist.

Just got my deer meat back from billys smokehouse near greensburg. 2 large boxes ground meat, sweet sausage, steaks, chops, roast, and jerky. Got him dropped off at Hutchs taxidermy den in Mount pleasant. They are really nice people with high quality work. Now I just can't let my old lady find out how much I spent lol. The past few years I have become obsessed with getting a big buck. After a few close encounters and a blown shot last year I had to up my game. Look close at the picture of my deer and you will see a nice scar on his back in the third picture. It's the same deer I shot at and wounded last year. I was on a stalk with my crossbow and jumped him. All happened so fast I think I put the 40 yard cross hare on him when he was actually more like 30 yards. Thank god he survived and even grew a bigger rack. Well I spent many hours at the shooting range, ran a good scouting and trail camera game, and played the scent card hard this year. All that plus a little luck and I pulled it off. This season it all came full circle what an awesome hunt what an amazing deer!

Were you happy with Billys as far as the processing goes?  I have had the summer sausage logs made there in the past and was happy but never had my deer processed there.  Just dropped my buck off there this AM.
Getting it boned out, 5 sausage logs and 12.5 lbs of pepper sticks.  Skipped the wrap to save some $.  I'll vacuum seal it when I get the meat back.

Congrats on the beauty buck.  If your wife is like mine, the next one will have to be bigger to make it to the wall!

Billys 75 for just cut. I go to joes butcher shop in pitcairn also there only 60 but they only do gun season. Can't beat that much meat for 60. I might take a doe before archery is out. Last time I did it myself it took about 5 hours.

Yea billys is good they trim the meat well and very clean there. Them door logs are the bomb. When I cut my own I take the scraps there and have them made. There jerky is soo god but expensive.

I love how you came back and got this deer a year later.  I know you were obsessing over that blown shot for the past 12 months.  Like an endless loop in the brain.  lol

I used Jim Landis in Forward Twp. the last time and was happy.  Billy's is so much closer for me though....less than 3 miles as the crow flies.

How is Miller's on Arona Rd?  I have driven by many times.  How much do they charge for a standard cut and wrap?  Do they do specialties like summer sausage logs, jerky and sticks?

I wish Billys had cheese as an option for their logs but they are really tasty without, too.  ChromeB, do you get your logs mixed with beef or pork?  I decided to give beef a try this year.  I had pork previously and like it but wanted to try the beef.

I have always had my deer mixed with pork. Let me know if the beef is any different. At pike predator-Yea doing it yourself is the way to go if you have time. This year I'm gonna take some does. I can't tell you how many does I have passed on and now that I want to fill doe tags they will be nowhere to be found. Lol

Dang that deer burger is tasty. Fried up with some onions a little garlic powder and a side of homemade french fries. Looks like I won't need to eat at Wendy's or any other burger joints this winter and save a little $$.

Eyes and gill the beef may have less sodium than the pork. I have noticed as I get older I have become sensitive to too much salt. I get a headache and feel like crap. The burger was spot on but the sweet sausage I got from billys was a little salty.
