Fished Arthur yesterday from 6:00 AM til 12:30 PM. I went fishless for the first five and a half hours and probably 350 casts. Then I caught a beautifull 4 pound 7 ounce large mouth. A beautiful fish. Caught it on a KVD white spinner bait with dual Colorado blade. Caught it along a sunken log near the 528 launch. Made the trip well worth it. It's the second largest bass I have taken out of Arthur. The largest was a 4 pound 11 ounce taken 3 years ago under 422. I will eventually get a 5 pounder out of there. I know there a many of them in there.

Anyone know if the lake has turned yet? or has anyone been out fishing with any luck. I haven't been fishing in quite sometime and might have a free pass here this Saturday to get out. Curious if the perch/crappie bite has started yet.

Hit the lake yesterday.  Water temp 61 at sunrise and hit 70 by mid PM.  Still the musty green & marked a thermocline around 23' at any water deeper than 25'.  Still seems to be the Summer bite, early morning had action, then after the sun came out for a few hours, they went in hiding.  Got a decent wiper (22") and had another peel 20 yards of drag before self releasing.  Also a few other short strikes as well.  My father in law got two nice wiskers and a few nice takes without reward.  After a few hours of trying to find where the hungry ones went, we hit some shoreline structure.  It seemed like they wanted to be there, but just not yet.  Got a few pan fish about 10' away from the structure, hanging out in the deeper water.  Not a great day, but much better than the Summer doledrum fishing that I was getting fed up with...

Great day on the lake today despite (or because of!) the blustery weather that repeatedly kicked up. I fished for about 4+ hours and got 3 decent Largemouth, several babies (literally babies; like, 3-4 inches long), and a bunch of nice sized 'gills. One Perch too. I wasn't keeping anything today, but could've had a near limit of nice 'gills.
 
I tried out the Gulp Alive Helgrammites (1.5") and they worked well, catching nothing but large 'gills. I switched to the Gulp Alive minnow (1" Emerald Shiner) and it was like suddenly ringing the food bell! They totally earned the second spot in my go-to for panfish, as they picked up not only the bigger fish, but the smaller ones as well. Had it been a warmer day or if I'd dressed properly, I'd have stayed and tried a few more areas to see how other fish reacted to them.
 
 

I trim down the 2.5 all of the time & the fish don't seem to mind.  Usually I'll try the 2.5 by itself, but if get 2-3 short strikes, will trim.  You can't squeeze out the 10+ fish per one bait, like the 1" or whole 2.5, but can still get 5-6 before you need a new one.  I usually just scrap the other piece, but tried using a small chunk to tip jigs that they were short striking and worked.  I'm sure you could get creative with the scraps and an X-Acto.  For some reason, this late fall bite seems better with live fatheads for me.  I'd love for the bite to be on Gulps, to keep my hands dry in 30-40 degree weather.  Hopefully be cleaning up your scraps on Sunday.

 Just set a couple traps, hope to have a fresh fish (Pike,Perch,Crappie & a Cat or two) roast this weekend. Haven't kept a fish all season, have the 5 gal. oil & smokin'wood ready. What's a good home-aid beer breadin' for the deep fryer?? Prob. get the ole skunkos  Are Chubs any good eatin' if they were raised on Cat food,  corn flakes, fruity pebbles, captain crunch, football shaped pretzels & crackers?

The key is feeding them Fruity Pebbles.  Delicious if raised on Fruity Pebbles only.  Horrible if they eat anything else...  Speaking of chubs, I set a trap last week, and nothing.  Checked it twice.  A few weeks back, had the thing filled so much with chubs and dace, that I had to throw back about half.  Even kept what I didn't use, and put back where I trapped for later catching.  I hope they didn't figure out my trap.
 
Crappy - I'm sure you'll be able to put enough in the cooler for a meal or two.  Hopefully a feast.  I pulled my boat this weekend for the Winter.  Hit the lake, and basically hid from the wind for most of the day.  Was able to get some perch, but none more than 9.5".  Did get a 13" & 16" largemouth.  If you can get out without the wind, I think you'll hammr them.  Today and tomorrow look ideal.  Hoping to run into a few more days like this to get into the Fall bite and have a fry of my own.

If Crappy is having a hard time pulling some over the rails, then something is up.  Thermocline rupture?  This past weekend's wind & low temps had to have mixed things up a bit.  Looks like round two the next few days.  Hopefully trigger the Fall pattern. 

Would have loved to have been out today.  I was trying, but dang work keeps getting in the way!  Hopefully soon enough.  A perch & crappie fry would be nice.
