With the sun setting earlier and the temperatures getting cooler I'm hoping to get on the water this week. Bit of a dilemma though; I'm stuck between, chest waders vs boat and creek vs lake? Decisions, decisions, never ending!! B-)

Appreciate the come back 10-4?

If I may qoute a legend in his own mind; "I'lllll be back".

Thanks......... Have not hit the water myself. Going to hit Shenango tomorrow. Hope the dropping water temp turns on the bite. Also hopping I'm not hitting the water too soon after a cold front. Weather report calls for northeast winds today changing to southeast winds during the Saturday am and coming out of the west in the pm. Sky will be cloudy and air temp in the low sixties.

Keep this under your hat cause I want to surprise my wife; If I don't do well tomorrow, I'll be there Sunday!!

Stay tuned!!

Welllllllll I made it to Shenango annnnnnd caught some fish. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!! Good night.

Good grief..... what a day!! First mistake was relying on the weather forecast. That report changed three times in a matter of 12 hours. Waited to 10 am before leaving the house; the 20% chance of showers would be before 10 am. and, radar was clear.

Five minutes from the house and I was wishing I had covered the boat but, the sky looked clear ahead so onward.

Checked the weather report while waiting for my MTO sub; no rain on the radar but, 20% chance of light showers is now until 2:00 pm with 6 to 8 mph winds, gusting to 14 mph from the south.

Hit the launch at the park entrance off of rt. 18 and got the boat on the water. Thankful that my rain gear was in the boat and hoping the 'forecast light showers' would soon be light. I'm still wondering; how the mouse, that chewed the collar off my raincoat, got in the boat?

Anyway, with the 'light rains' starting to subside and clearing skies above, I put the boat into the wind and boy did I. Started out from the launch, turning right around the point, passing under the RR trestle and nutten but white caps. All the way to the west end of the lake. Sure glad the wind forecast only called for 6 to 8 mph with gust to 14 mph out of the south. Found some relief fishing the south shore and small bays and it only rained for 20% of the time. Eventually the sky turned blue, the wind died down and the lake began to glass over. Sorry, I can't tell you what time that was as, I was busy securing the boat to the trailer.

Water temp. was 72` at the surface and I could see a white curly tail down to about 2' in 15 ' of water. Tried jigs with curly tails, pigs & jigs, Texas rigged worms, suface lures, shallow and deep diving lures. The top fish getter today was a shallow diving silver and black 'little-o'.

Sorry to say no 'lunkers' today but, you know what they say about a bad day of fishing. Least not forget, there is always tomorrow so, look out Pymie, here I come.

Yikes! That sure sounded like my day at Pymy....lol The only way I could troll was with the wind. I got snagged and before I could get things stopped and turned around all my line was out and snap...lost everything...thats when I loaded the boat.

Alarm went off at 5:00 am, staggered around the house, hoping the muscles I didn't know I had would soon stop aching. Headed outside, coffee in hand, and did a immediate about face. Weatherman was right, temperature was 40' so, I thought I better change from short pants and no shirt before venturing out to hook the boat.

Motion detection light turned on at
my approach to the man cave and it was back to the house. I don't have a
fog horn on the boat and I'm sure it would be midmorning before the fog would clear.

Going out to hook the boat now and it's off to Pymy.........Stand-by.

Re: Let's Talk Pymatuning 2014/09/14 23:56:12 (permalink)
Hit the water around 2:30 pm and tossed some lures around blowdowns for an hour. Decided to try some trolling; one rod with a hot-n-tot and one rod with a little-o behind a dipsy diver. Had the dipsy bouncing on the bottom in twenty fow then slid into deeper waters. I started running parallel with shore then switched to crisscrossing. I zigged, I zagged, I circled and, I squared. I even seesawed and still nothing. Tried different colors of the 'tot' and put a jointed rapala and devil spoon behind the 'diver'. Trolling speed varied from 1 to 3 mph (gps).

8:20pm loaded the boat and headed home with nary a fish. So, as they say in the old country. If at first you don't succeed; try, try again.

Soooooo Pymy here I come!!

Had plans to head up to Pymy yesterday but with all that fog, i decided to stay close to home and fish Shenango. Bite started out slow. First 3 spots, 8 in the livewell. Only 3 over 10", the others were fat black 9"s. Next 3 spots produced better fish. Some shallow and some deep. Ended with 25 keepers with 16 over 10"s with 2 being 12". I noticed signs of the lake turning over already. Hopefully we'll have a quick one like last year. Took less than a week and the fishing was back to normal.

Those weren't signs of the lake turning over; you were seeing the aftermath of the gale force winds on Sat. Saw two dudes on what I thought was knee boards but, no boat. Turns out they were on surf boards waiting to catch a good wave.

Talked to an old boy on Sat. that told me he did quite well on Fri. but nothing on Sat. I told him he should not have caught them all the day before. I know I heard him grumbling while going up the drive to get his trailer. Some people just can't take a joke.

Anyway, congrats on your catch. I'm cooling it on the walleyes for a while and gettin' back to the specks and perch. Nothin' like a plate full of 'poor mans' lobster' for dinner.

Happy fishing.........

Hit Shenango yesterday for a few hrs. Managed 3 bass and lost that many. Tried for stripers with no luck. Rain was coming down when I was loading boat...imagine that.

Got out to the southend of Pymy on wednesday. Tried shallow and deep. The crappies were still scattered but i managed to put some in the livewell. Only fished jigs. Maybe i should try live bait next time.

Those perch are packed up and headed to Ky next month.
Did you get any of those big slabs? They'll be starting up pretty soon there. I'll be there and pymy within the next week, checking the bite progress. I'll post results as I get them.

Kentucky?.......... What the heck?......... I don't live in Kentucky!! :'(

No slabs at Shenango but, some nice fish. Held onto a dozen this time (slurp) and will be looking for the 'big uns' all next week. Fish were down 18 to 20 feet in 25 fow. Slip bobbers and/or 1/16 oz jigs tipped with minnows on ul rods. Fish were sipping the bait causing the bobbers to lay flat or we felt the weight of the fish as we slowly jigged with the ul(s).
Absolutely no aggressive hits but, they gave a hearty fight.

Tried Wilhelm today with fish showing in 12 to 18 fow. Bite was a bit more aggressive and good fighting fish were caught. However; the difference in fish is astounding, comparing fish inch per inch , Shenango has far better quality fish. All C/R today but, that can change as I know Willhelm has her fair share of barn doors too.

DAG-NAB-IT I broke my trolling motor..........  @#%*-of-a-+*^% won't turn with the foot pedal.   But all is not lost; there's light at the end of the tunnel.  Just hope there ain't a train behind that light.   Found a place on the internet that supplies trouble shooting info, schematics and, even parts for the piece of  +*&^%$#    Now, if I can remember where all the screws and springs go when I try to reassemble the thing!!

Happy days are here again.........

Trolling motor worked great and the crappie got hungary around 6:00 on Shenango. Caught my fair share with a dozen of those getting a ride home in the live well.

Found the fish in twenty fow and caught more on a jig dressed with a tube then I did fishing fatheads under slip bobbers. Once again the bite was subtle with most hook sets made upon, feeling the weight of the fish on the jig.

Well gotta go..... Have an appointment on Shenango tomorrow. B-)

Awful quite about Pymie on this board. Are you guys hiding something from me so, I stay down south on Shenango? Wellllllllll?

Ok for you guys!!........... I ain't gonna tell yinz about my success using jigs on the bottom in 15- 20 fow. Nope, not gonna do it!...
AND I ain't gonna mention another dozen of the crappies (black) I caught last night, made their way to my freezer. But, I will tell you how nice it was talking with some really nice folks I met, while waiting to trailer our boats.

Oh yeah, Mr. Keep Pymie Secrete, I ain't gonna tell yinz I was fishing Shenango............ so THERE!!
