DSR reports that fishing improved today with a steady trickle of fish instead of just some movement in the early hrs.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question about the dailey limit. I doubt I'll ever experience fishing the SR but, ( Dang.. I'll have to change my name (lol)) it sure is fun sharing in the excitement via this board.

Good luck to everyone, let the pictures begin......... BTDT.

Hate weekends but will be up this coming one. Hope to find some isolated little spot where the yankers wont walk to.
Likely will make a quick suicide turnaround to CT Late Sun or early Mon and come right back up with Wifey and the Lab for several days of fish, golf, wine and campfires.
At this point am not even expecting the fishing to improve- butttt -it may happen someday.

It will improve. I know things aren't good but I can't wait till the next trip up. Wife is having surgery mid month so that's going to shut me down for a bit. Lacrosse every Sunday in November so lots of day trips for me but I'll make the best of it.

Arrived in Altmar around noon and it was so hot we did n't get on the stream until around 3 PM,I must be getting old!Anyway to make it short and sweet, the Salmon gave me the fin but I did manage to land one brown (it was at least 10 inches) and one Smallmouth that was almost twice as long as my wooly bugger.
Tomorrow is another day!

Just saw a report that a good run of fish came in today.  Can anyone confirm this?

Neither Whitakers or DSR have posted a daily as yet, which makes me wonder--however at this point even a normal size pod would make a bigger splash than it would generally deserve--   lol.

(make that  LOL with a teardrop)
and a heartfelt secret wish that it was true

Hey==with fish sneaking in and holding in deep pools spawn activity seems outa the picture as yet- anyone seen any at all-even from Hos ???

Yes I talked with someone at hatchery Friday night and they said fish are starting to pair up in the brook.

Wouldn't ya just love to have a job forecasting weather. Absolutely no responsibility, to anyone, for inaccurate reports; cause you can blame it on the weather!! (lol).

I gotta go fishing......... soon!!

Not to feed the trolz, but note no report from a week ago, guess when there are not a thousand fish around it's tuff to not not snag them........

Re: Fri Sat report 2014/10/02 18:21:32 (permalink)
So, i have been here since Monday, and it has been less than productive to say the least. We have fished the early, mid, and late hours. I have seen very few fish fought and even fewer landed. Two nights ago though, i did get to play with two and landed one. It was right in the mouth, so i felt good for a moment. I have talked to people at every lot and its the same everywhere. A few in the morning and evening and very few the rest of the day. I did get to go to the Salmon River Falls, which was really nice. I also went to the hatchery today and it was packed with fish, so they are making it there. Most people think they are moving at night. Also heard from a guy that there were lots in the estuary waiting to come in. All in all, it still beats work. Saw a ton of DEC trucks around sportsman and up river. Lastly, while some of the holes were pretty **** messy, why dont they have trash cans or dumpsters at any of the lots? I think i saw one near the clamshack that was overflowing the whole time.

If you can carry in a full coffee cup, or 12 pack, of Mickeydee sack of burgers, why can't you carry it out, and put it in a trash bag in your vehicle and haul it back to wherever you came from?  Who are "they", and why should " they" have to pay for a dumpster and pay someone to empty it and pay a tipping fee to dump your trash?  All kinds of places are like the big woods in New York now, you carry it in, you carry it out.  The license allows you the privilege of fishing, does not say anything about dumping!  No, it is just that a whole bunch of "sportsmen,"  derisively referred to as "fishheads" by the locals, feel like they are entitled to dump anything and everything wherever they want, so of course, some people's back yard ends up looking "pretty **** messy".  I'd like to see the fine structure updated to reflect the inflation that has occurred since it was established, and then a sting on that, and taxes in NYS might actually start to go down, an some of the pigs would either change or stay home.

I agree L-13, its sad and we even find a large mess in the backwoods from pig campers. I always try to leave a place in as good or better then I found it.
Will say that the area I was last week is a very popular fishing river and it was spotless along its banks :)

we have a spot that we go to and I carry a large trash bag I let people (and slobs) know that they are welcome to use it  I carry it out and the local fish cleaning station will get rid of it for us  Not everyone use it but at least we dont have a lot to pick up at the end of the day   we may not own the area but we treat it as if we did

I picked up a few cans and bottles while fishing the "zones" this week, but I must say the area was not littered like you find in the popular snagging sections.

The upper didn't look bad on my walkabout with clint Tues.
The lower seemed cleaner than the week before, must have been you Jack.
Mostly small plastic bags and little pieces of paper.
You know the stuff that weighs more going out than in.
