Keystone State Park Lake

A friend of mine was there this week-end & saw a guy catch an approx.30"+ Musky on a plug. The guy was throwing large plugs for Musky,he said that he catches a few every year.  sam

Its hard to believe that there is enough room in KSP lake to have a thriving musky population.  How deep does it get around the channel?

It was stocked with over 3k tiger fingerlings in '03. It was also stocked in '02 (250), '11 (250), '12 (400) and '13 (400) all tiger fingerlings. The deepest channel I have found was roughly around 20-25' and ran parallel to the shore starting in front of the 'new' boat rental building up till the drain near the dam.

There were a couple of spots that were close to 28-30' there also. A couple of years ago the Keystone volunteers & the state drew the lake down & cleaned it up while putting a ton of structure including cribs etc. along both sides of the lake. In the spring I have watched those Musky fingerlings patrolling the shore line for smaller fish,it was really cool because they looked exactly like the bigger ones & learned pretty quick what minnows are for. Unfortunately the bass also learned what little Musky are good for also. BTW Jug, the guy that caught that one this week-end was fishing from shore. sam

Has the crappie fishing picked up since the cribs/ etc? I think I may have read or heard that ultimately that was the goal, ... Better crappie fishing throughout the year. I have picked up quite a few trolling spinners around the beach area. The numbers seem to be there just not exactly slabs.

Before I had a depth finder, my buddy and I tried to anchor in that channel and were shocked at how deep it was. I kept a canoe there for about seven years, but don't anymore and don't make it out there as often.

They were supposed to stock the lake today. Anyone fishing here? I'm gonna come up in the next few weeks and put a hurting on em like I usually do. Take my boy out. Good chance to catch a big one there eventually they put some hogs in every time I was there for a stocking.
