Looking for a new fly reel, any suggestions?

Hi All,  I am still extremely new to fly fishing for steelhead and I have been doing my best to learn as much as I can before the upcoming season.  I bought a $120 Cabelas 8wt 9' Wind River set up for my maiden voyage last year and I'm worried about the durability if I actually hook into a decent sized fish.  My main concern is in the drag of the reel that came with it.  Seeing as my buddies and I are planning a trip to New York for some monster fish, I don't want to go up there unprepared and have to rely on my spinning tackle when I'd rather catch them on the fly.  If anyone can point me in the direction of a decent reel that wont break the bank I would greatly appreciate it.  I don't have a ton of cash to play with, and I hate going to fly shops and asking questions just to have guys treat me like I'm an idiot for not knowing enough.  Any advice you can provide will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advanced for all and any help you are able to provide me.  Tight Lines!

If your reel is metal and the drag feels smooth at a heavier setting, I think you're fine as is. If the drag is real choppy at heavier settings, Lamson konic.

Coming to NY for Monster fish, what you really want is that Martin Mohawk 72 multiplier, for sale right here on  fish USA. spooled up with 17 lb florescent Stren, 4 #2's on the leader, and a 1/0 Octopus with the shank wrapped in black estaz.  As long as you are garbed head to toe in Simms, and you remember your speedo for the hero shots, you'll fit right in.

here is a great deal on a Lamson lightspeed reel, this is 3 grades up from the konic.  I recommend the 3.5.  I use this for steelhead and pike.

+1 For Lamson Konic. I think another under rated reel is the Redington series of reels. I prefer the Rise
