Musky in Lake Erie ?

Just curious to hear if anybody has ever caught any Muskies out in deeper Lake Erie water. I've heard and have seen pictures of Muskies caught in the Bay only.  I've never heard of any Muskies caught out in Erie's open water till lately. A friend claimed to pick up a smaller spotted variety Musky out in 65' of water recently while trolling 35' down for Walleye. I don't doubt his story just curious if any others have had or heard of any caught way off shore like this.

one would think that with all the boats trolling for eyes, steel, and lakers, that if a musky were caught in the open lake, that story would be making the rounds.  habitat out there just doesn't support them.  i'm wondering if the one you're buddy caught wasn't just washed or dumped out there.

I know the upper and lower Niagara hold large Musky but once again off shore in deeper water I've never seen or heard Musky being caught. Would like to hear more like these if anybody has any to tell. This is a pup I picked up out of the Niagara while drifting for Trout in Winter.

When I was around ten years old I remember catching some muskie fry off of Walnut Creek. It took me a while to remember that. When I caught one I did not recognize it at first but thought it looked like a "baby musky." I mentioned it to the guy next to me and he confirmed it.

in 90 I caught a walleye with a Michigan tag in its jaw off Trout Run ? I think the fish no matter species go wherever they want, just my theory.

No, not too many posters from the Lake Erie area on that board.  Most posters are from WI and MN, but it was more to address the depth/lack of vegetation-habitat/open water issue.

I was perch fishing north of Conneaut in about 50+ FOW.  We kept seeing a large fish just below the surface in back of the boat.  We had a lot of sea gulls close to the boat.   We were also catching a lot of perch some small and throwing them back.  I think this could have been a musky if so it was easily 35+inches.

I guess they do roam in deeper water off shore. It seems that larger heavier Musky are still rare though even with all that good Great Lake feed, other then those out in upper Niagara head waters of Lake Erie. I still think inland Stripers would be a good bonus game fish if added to Erie but that's another subject. Thank's for the info.

My son and I were fishing P. Isle several years ago and a ~20 inch pike came finning by. Looking at it I thought it had ich on it and was injured. I told my son not to bother it. He then saw a huge musky following bellow. He knows the difference in big-huge, as we target big pike and musky and hope for huge.
Also a local Erie bait shop owner after I told him about this encounter related his own tales. Then told me of a fisherman that trolled the main lake east of P Isle all the time. He trolled many miles east then back. He only caught a few a year but they were bruisers. I know there are bruisers in P Isle from the many tales I have been told. I have been wanting to target them but time goes by and so many other fish to catch. The one trip my son and I made there for Musky in fall the weeds were floating everywhere and even under surface. Could not troll. We ended up fishing for something else.
