So steelhead season is finally over? Yay. Now I can have the Manchester hole all to myself.

I hear the native brookies are going to be running all the way up to Sterrettania next week. Jus sayin'   They usually run in March, but my crystal ball thinks otherwise this year....

NOT ME!
Still need to get the fire wood taken care of then  need to find a buck to tag.
After all that if work is not too demanding maybe I'll get the fever.
Its funny though when the cool wet weather arrives in the fall I always find myself walking Elks banks...
It's only mid July you should have never even brought this subject up,go catch sum walleyees or perchems.

In all honesty, yeah, I'm ready. This hot weather's gotta go....

Sure, I don't like the crowds on the PA tribs(unless you walk 10 miles), but when I'm tired of the zoo I escape to the Ohio tribs. Plus those feesh fight harder and have room to run. It's a lot more "real." Steelhead are just a lot of fun. Nothing beats a big acrobatic chromer fresh from the lake. I fished for steelies into May this year and I miss them already.

Reminds me, I'm running low on powerbait.....     Anyone try Little Cleos? I hear they're good on upper Walnut. Oops, just spot burned.........sorry

A good substitute for steelbows and to get some practice in is carp on a fly rod. Even those four to five pounders are challenging. You don't need to fish for them with flys, just bottom fish like you would normally with carp bait. And if your fortunate enough to hook into a 10 to 15 pound fish, well, it's game on. They're also a lot of fun on an ultra light noodle rod.

We are still catching steel. On the lake. The season never ends. I'm tired of them trashing my trolling set ups. We usually just cut em up for perch bait.

Cleaned all the gear and added some new stuff to experiment with. Ready to buy some new fresh line and respool. With missing out on the spring run this year, the fall cannot come fast enough. Have been enjoying some good fights with Carp, but nothing can replace the feeling of a chrome. Starting with the jitters the night before, to the time the toes are numb! I cant wait!

OK, countdown to neoprenes in 80 degree weather. In about a month there will be a run--as there is every year and has been for the last 40 years. They will come in, nose about, find out it is too low and warm, and head back out.

T-minus one month or so until:

- Complaints about no fish
- Complaints about keeping fish
- Complaints about not keeping fish
- "Is it worth it yet" posts, and the heated debates that usually result
- The "up to route 5 yet" joke being beaten to death.
- Monologues about how it was so much better 30 years ago
- Arguments over who's responsible for more and more land being closed each year
- The crew that doesn't fish until January beating their chests
- Photos being posted, only to have everything else but the fish itself being commented on.
- Photo threads, on which maybe 1 out of every 10 posts are an actual photo of a fish caught this year.
- On that note, the first person to post a photo of a steelhead being labeled as some sort of spot burning heathen, because the number of guys chasing the first five fish up to the stop sign hole has gone up.

Sounds like a party.

Lake temps in the lower to mid 70's and days getting shorter.  Bet some in the know have been catching a few - or maybe a lot - at the right time of day in the right places in the last week or so.

From the regs:
BOW AND ARROW (including compound bows and crossbows) may be used for taking ONLY carp, suckers and catfish on all Commonwealth waters, day or night, except in approved trout waters during the closed season and in special regulation waters.

In all seriousness, judging by the wetter, cooler summer, it could likely be a good early run here, hain't sure though.

Now then, I forgot some:
- Crowds/ the Walnut circus
- 'Pinners
- Those 5 inch too big bobbers in gin clear water
- Bickering about the Erie Stamp
