Ya the causeway where the original Espyville marina was! lol  And I've really got nothing against the bass fisherman, it's just the pressure in general.  Obviously, I go back to the days when Lou Stefan ran the Linesville livery with two wooden docks and about thirty rental boats.  If you had your own boat back then you were certainly well off!
Never used to pick up bass in the stumps like I have the last few years.  Good mix between big and small, but if I am targeting smallies, I definitely go to the Allegheny.   Softshells and Helgramites and I'm in heaven.

Many years ago (10 or so) I was hunting ducks near Fries road around the little islands and was putting out decoys around 4 in the morning.  There were the usual sounds of fish jumping coming all around me.   All of a sudden a19" smallmouth comes flying into the canoe right into my lap. Takes a lot to shake me up but after I put the fish back in the water I had to go to shore to check my drawers.

Fished for a couple hours and did have a fish on. Short strike barely hooked him from what I could tell. Gonna try again tomorrow night.

Does anyone know when Fries Road Launch gate will be opened ??

The road back to the launch was full of potholes  last year. I don't suppose there's any chance the park will do anything with the potholes.  Like filling them in .... a little lime stone is way too much to ask, I'm sure.

You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

Picked up a nice limit of eyes last night by the causeway. Had to work for it, 7 hours, but was worth it. Largest 22". A lot of boats there. I was packed in the middle of them. Fished from 5 pm till about midnight.

The Wilson launch was in on the 4/12/14.  Road was rougher than usual though.  Water temp Saturday started at 49 and was around 52 at 4:00 PM.

I keep timing the bite wrong...I've been up six or seven times and have yet to catch a walleye wading.

It's slow still. Was out on the boat from 7-7 and caught a bunch of little perch 8-10" and 5 that we're ok around 12-13". My buddy did catch a 22" musky that when it first broke the surface we thought is was a nice eye, it broke the surface then dove right away so we only had a split second look. We were both kind of bummed it was a ski, but it was at least bigger than the perch and on ultralight tackle.

The worst day hunting or fishing will always be better then the best day at school or work!

Was up on Friday and struck out on everything.  Either we were too early or the fish are late ...  All jokes aside I did see one person at the spill way with 2 nice eyes probably in the low to mid 20s range with a few assorted panfish go by, but there were lots of people at the spill way, not sure if it was due to nice weather Friday or "the fish are in" type deal...

Agreed. There is no need for anyone to head up there this year. Again, no need for anyone to head to Pymie!! Pick someplace else...anyplace else.

This is true Pymie is dead. I heard there is a small pond off 79 down south. I think it's called Lake Arthur or something. Heard they are catching monster fish there.

Lake Arthur a small pond? Compared to what? Maybe you're referring to that rock quarry/strip mine that's visible at the first rest stop just south of the Grove City Shopping Complex??? There are very large bass that come out of there. As far as Pyme being dead - it depends on one's skills and how well the person knows the lake. No need for anyone to head up there? Sounds like propaganda to keep others away or an attempt at humor. Let there be no mistake, I'm not bashing anyone re: angling skills or anything else.

Re: Let's Talk Pymatuning 2014/04/24 12:40:07 (permalink)
Fish5k... you are missing their sarcasm.  They are basically saying that the more people who buy into the nonsense that pymie has no fish and go somewhere else the better.

FWIW I've heard people say there were no fish in Arthur many times over the years.  They were wrong of course.  I'm not sure how many people realize that these "close" lakes are completely different.  For instance if you are used to fishing the weedbeds in summer in Arthur and go to Shenango to try the same technique you will soon find out that there aren't any weedbeds there to fish.  At least not comparable to Arthur.  Each lake is different, and you need to put some effort into how that affects your fishing if you want to succeed.

I am determined to hit up pymie this year... but that whole driving an hour plus after I pass Arthur really bothers me.  I'm not good enough / persistent enough to wrangle walleyes from Arthur but I think I could probably catch a couple at pymie.  SIGH.

Thanks Rugerboy58.  Are you talking about the stumps north of Clark Island or the ones by Whaley island?  I'm taking a good friend up Friday and I'm hoping to get him on some nice crappie.
