I'm from Maryland and I get up to the lake a few times a year.....I come up around 2nd or 3rd week of May usually but this year I booked for May 2nd.....what are the temps of PI bay and the lake close to it like? Any info will be greatly appreciated....with this years winter I am thinking of pushing my trip back a bit

Sharpefly is right, there is still ice on the lake currently. I'm not sure of the temps at this moment, but you can always call the Fish and Boat Commission at Walnut Creek - 814-833-2464 and you should be able to ask them info on the lake.

That is also the Pa walleye opening day weekend, so expect a ton of local walleye angler traffic at the ramps and most likely a lot of near shore traffic from them also.

Water temps in the bay varied from 44-50 degrees F on saturday. slowest fishing I've encountered. not one largemouth which usually dominate my catch 10 to 1 this time of year. Are they not in the bay because it is still winter in the lake? who knows.

When I used to keep a boat at Erie (which was up until 4 yrs ago) every year, I would trailer my boat up the lake the first saturday of May and as part of the trip up, would run out onto the lake to fish smallies. The surface temp out on the lake the first saturday of May always seemed to be about 52 degrees.

Main bay was 46 degrees today. Lots of ice entered with today's NE wind.
    Some smallmouth being caught.
