The Deetz
approx 1956 Donnelly & sons competition rod 4wt, 9 foot, very stiff action. New guides, new wraps, refurbished reel seat and cork, new ferrules and poly coating. Almost the end of the bamboo era. Used Monteague tooling , but also used Monteague ferrules (that split). A GREAT casting rod and one of my favorites for dries. AND with two tips of slightly different action.

For those who wish to know. the overall winner of the event gets choice of either the Brand new rod, a 9 foot 4 wt based on a Leonard taper, or the restored Monteague rod; the one with the varigated wraps and the blue handle. The Donnelly rod is the "Special" rod.

beautiful rods jack!! love seeing your work. the dark wraps definitely catches the eye and than close up we see the beauty of it all. just isn't the same as the graphite rods, except when there are custom made cork handles

I have some really great news...A generous donation to accompany Jacks rods. Here is the pm I received: I have 5 weight Cortland Sylk lines for all three. Since they are all 4/5's a 5 weight will work pretty well. The 444 sylk is a line we made to cast well on bamboo rods. It will cast on any rod, but it's particularly nice on bamboo. You know something, I'm suprised nobody's noticed the winding check on the new (blond) rod. It's a secret till NOW. Maybe Skip with be able to get a macro picture of it.

awesome stuff there guys boy i wish i could have a shot at one of those. also skip great pics oh well i hope you all have a great time at the onefly maybe next year. I do love to watch the boy play linebacker though cause HE IS VICIOUS. And he is having a fantastic season.
