Couple fresh Steelies

Didn't like the skunkin on Monday so I went back today for reprieve.
 
Creeks are really low and clear..Fish are quite spooky...
Did manage 3 in the rain..Was really slow...
Couple pics, Don't mind the gill blasting he is now headed for the smoker.
 
I need to have one of you fellas show me how to fillet one of these things. I never filetted a Steelie before. Sure doesn't look like the ones Paul did at the Pinner outing..
I think I still have some bones in it....

    Bings dont feel bad about them fillets , they may not look pretty but they will smoke up and eat all the same 

    Next time fillet around the rib cage and use pliers to pull out the Y bones or cut right through the rib cage  and remove after fillet is off the fish. A few more and you will have the hang of it.

    i fillet em the same as i do a trout...skin em first and then fillet off the rib cage and spine...im guessing this is a total hard way but it works for me with the few i keep...does have a tendency to give me some sore fingers...lol..but they taste great!

    We'll see how he tastes. I really didn't want to keep him but I fought him to long and he went belly up on the release.....(My Bad)...
    So I will try some smoked Steelie....

       Me too, I'll bring a knife and a board to the 1 Fly. We'll have you slicing off perfect filets in 20 seconds per fish.

    Great pics Bings.  Nothing at all wrong with keeping any legal fish to eat.  I'm hoping to get one for my smoker.  Please post pics of the finished results!  Well...  Please stop at the consumption...

    Thank goodness the temps are dropping. I cant take bings warm weather fishing attire.

    Bings... great shots... I love the ones you do of the scenery around you. It shows you are enjoying the 'place' as much as the fishing itself...
