I've been hooking up regularly with a chrome / blue pattern cleo 2/5ounce . Surf fishing is fun as well to get away from crowds although the action is slower than fishing elbow to elbow ; it is a refreshing break . I make rod holders out of PVC pipe w/ a 45degree angle above a straight 4 ft piece of pipe and a 1 ft piece to hold you're rod cost about 3$ . Paste baits in orange , reg , chartruese work well but the killers are nightcrawlers blown up with air ( about 12 - 18 " from you're sinker ( with good water clearity ) . I use a 10 lb base line with a 4 foot 4lb/6lb p-line flourocarbon leader depending on clearity. Don't let anyone tell you differently ; flouro will outfish standard mono with clear water. Also try skein sacs but add styrofoam into them so they float off the bottom as well . The tick et here is to keep you're offering up off the bottom. If you like the crowds you can catch steelhead at the mouths using standard steelhead techniques IE floating sucker spawns below a float ( orange has been hot lately . ) Good luck & tight lines . DC
