I usually try too keep it around 2.5. A change up is always good when they are not biting. A little slower or a little faster can trigger a strike

I saw you posted 2.5 in one of your other replies, I thought maybe it was a typo. I've always heard the slower the better
I've never tried above 1.6, maybe I'll try faster tomorrow.

It depends what you are using to measure your speed.  GPS and fishfinders, for some reason, usually read different.  I try to keep it about 1.5 acording to my fishfinder.  I've checked with a portable GPS, and they show 2mph plus at the same speen.  I generaly subtract .7mph from the speed of a GPS to figure the speed I need to go acording to my finder.  I figured something was wrong when my buddy, on a different boat, told me the speed they were going and I kept blowing past them.  Just keep in mind that almost everyone uses a GPS to display thier speed.  Granted there are times that you need to speed up.  In June I was getting fish in close trolling at 2.5.  That was after I was told to go 3-3.5mph.

GPS reads actual speed you are crossing the water, depth finders read the speed that the water is passing under your boat. There for the difference in readings
