how to see waterspouts

I have never seen a waterspout but have heard them to be dangerous.

How do you recognize that such an occurance is about to happen?

When you press the little round button, the water is about to sprout.

Sixers, hard to predict, hopefully when you see them it's from a distance.  Dave

water spouts are quite interesting I have seen as many as six in a line coming down the lake most often from west to east. A spout can be detected before it becomes trouble, you will see a small funnel drop from the cloud first, a full funnel may or may not form but if a funnel does appear you will see the water lift up from the lake to meet the funnel from the cloud and a large swirl of water much like a dust storm at the bottom of it all. Out of pure stupidity (curiosity) Ive boated quite close to one there loud mesmerizing and wet. I had a couple anglers up from Nebraska for a walleye tournament back in the 80's there where three funnels coming down the lake just north of the first trench, being from tornado alley the anglers immediately flipped out. thats when the moment of curiosity came on me.I thought I would give these anglers a close up look at a Pa, water twister. If not for the self bailing deck on that 24 ft. stamas and a good bilge pump we would have ben standing in knee deep water as it passed several hundred yards to the north.

    Sixers,
As you may have already guessed they are a water tornado.  And they are VERY DANGEROUS! A good sized one can very easily pick up a boat and toss it quite a ways (Saw that in FLA one time).  Unless you are very fond of saying : "Look I can see the dock from up here!"   Stay away and observe from a distance.  I almost got caught by a small one on Raystown years ago, and like Presqueileangler said, water in boat and it turned the boat around and moved it sideways.  For me,  two miles, or more, is a safe distance to see them from.  They can move very quickly, and change direction.

I've seen water spouts in Erie and In Florida you cant miss them when there out there. I would highly recommend heading for shore if theres some out there I wouldn't want to chance playing with one of those theres to many good days to fish. The spouts I've seen were with other spouts never just one. Yhey are cool to watch!
