I know that Walnut gets a few and there have been some caught in 20-mile as well.  Not a whole bunch of them, but they certainly attract a lot of attention!

Egg Sac is the man on the pinkers. I think he gets one just about every other even year, thats how they run. ask him, he's got some cool photo in his album on this site.Just go to the photo album section, I think he is on page 2.

I caught one on Walnut about 3-4 years ago. It was one of the few fish I ever kept. I figured someone in the family would want to eat it, to make a long story short, they hated it.

I would have gotten it mounted if I knew how rare it was. Guy at PR says to me as he carves the one side off "These are rare, we're lucky to see two of these in a year."

I have yet to tangle with a salmon of any kind. Any type in my mind would be a bonus. But if an angler were to catch the right pink salmon it would be an easy state record to beat. I know how your are with salmon I saw that monster of a coho you cought. But it looks as tho we may have to battle the nut to get the pink.

All of the pinks in the Great Lakes are wild fish, descended from an accidental stocking in Lake Superior 50 years ago. They are mostly found in the upper Great lakes but a small number are caught in Lake Erie. They are a great little bonus fish and take flies or bait well. They run about 16" to 22", with females generally smaller than the hump-backed males.

In 20 yrs. of fishing the Lake Erie tribs I've caught two pinkies, both out of Walnut creek and on the same evening. They were 15" and 19" but very pretty little hens. Wish that I would have had my camera as both were released. That was 3 or 4 yrs. ago and yes it was early in the season.

Soon would be the time for pinks..  I've seen a few in Elk, some dead.  Never caught one though.  Keep in mind when keeping them, that their young do not hold over like a naturally reproduced steelhead would, so the chance of natural reproduction is much higher than steel.  The young head to the lake asap.  It's quite a rarity and a gem to catch one along the Erie shoreline.  Congrats to all that have.  Superior's tribs get some good runs of them.

Here is one that I caught up north. You wouldn't confuse it with a steelhead. I'm guessing that there must be a small reproducing population in Lake Erie tribs, not all stray fish, but maybe nobody really knows for sure.

    Kushequa,
I couldn't get the pic to load, but you right about not confusing it with a steelie. The deep pink sides with only about a 1/2 dozen spots. A person would have to be blind to make that mistake. I, too wasn't very familiar with them when I caught mine or the 19 incher probably would have gone to the taxidermist. They are supposed to run every 3-4 yrs. maybe this will be the year. That would be a "nice dream" on.
