hardest part of smoking a fish is lighting the tail!

That Steelie I caught today, I plan on smoking. I love smoked salmon and trout. Anyway, the reason for this post is that I have heard from a few people that steelies are not great eating? I always smoke them since it turns out so well. I don't see the problem myself. Does anyone do much else with them?

    Cedar plank on the grill with old bay, or creole seasoning and lemon.

    Dredge filet in flour
    Dip in egg and milk mixed with old bay or cayenne to taste
    Bread with panco(Japanese breadcrumbs)
    Deep fry in Wesson or Canola oil-peanut oil has to strong of a flavor

    got me droolin' all over this piece....
     
    peanut oil be good.. dip them fillets in little sumthin' sumthin'.. co co nut flakes. fry in some peanut oil..

    I guess it's all in personal taste.
    I think steehead and any of the trouts are good eating....and....I prefer sheephead to perch.

    Fish should taste fishy I reckon.....amuses me how they market so much canned salmon and tuna as "Chicken of the Sea"....so, buy a chicken, it's cheaper!

    bake them on oak board at 350 for
    half hour, when done throw fish away
    and eat the board.

    I bbq them on the grill with some lemon pepper, garlic and butter. They are fishy in a way but I love it. The only fish type food I dont like are anchovies and caviar, waaayyy too salty for me.

    I,ld rather eat a blind robin(fish) than eat a stealhead. Kick them back in the water.

      I've made blind robbins with them. I'd put them in zip-lock bags & my buddies would gobble them up while out huntin. Prob. be good on pizza.

    By the way everyone, smoked some of the trout the other day and fed it to some guests along with some store bought salmon. The trout went first. I'm not saying right or wrong, just the facts.
