Snubbers

Started using snubbers on my dypsies this weekend. I am hooking more fish but am losing them at the boat because they are not hooked good. I am really yanking on the rods to try and set them but seems to not work still. I was wonderng if running fire wire would help this situation or if anyone has a better idea

I switched to fire line last year for my dipsy lines and it has made a big difference. Not dragging small fish like I used to. As far as snubbers are concerned, I have only used them in Lake Ontario fishing for kings. I don't use them when I'm trolling on Lake Erie for Walleye.

if you are using mono then why would you think you need snubbers? they are made for braids and other no stretch lines. your mono is all you need. i never use snubbers, the walleye in erie dont really pul or fight much. a couple head shakes thats it. just use 20-25 pound mono with your dipseys.

Thank you for the input guys. I was having problems hooking fish and was told to use snubbers.(you know a couple of shakes and it was gone before I could get the pole) It did work but couldnt get a good hook set. I think I will go with super line. From what I have read it is easier to pop the dypsies loose with it.

Poor Richards sells a braid called Cortland. I have that on all my dipsy rods. It is nicer than Fireline in my opinion. I use dipsy's with and without snubbers it doesn't seem to matter we lose fish both ways with and without snubbers

I've lost more fish trying to release the dipsy hard than just lifting with a good strong pull. Seems like everytime I try a hard set I end up with bare hook. Only lost 2 the last 4 days Thurs - Sun.  I really don't set my dipseys that tight - just enough to hold em depending on the waves. Once in awhile 1 will release on a turn but most times no problem. I use braid to the dipsy and floro from the dipsy to the lure. Standard procedure. Experimenting with the tension takes a little time but worth it. I've found the walkers are easier to adjust than the Luhr-Jensens (not enough selection though), My 2 cents, hope it helps.    Dave
