...hunted this area alot in the past, killed 4 bucks over the past 5 years this one being the nicest and the nicest i've seen from that area. This year hunted my stand around the same time as which i have taken deer in the past saw NOTHING!, took a break from it hunted another woods for about a week, Came back to it this morning 11.4.09 got in the stand around 6:30...Long story short which no hunting story is short...i tried "bleating" this morning but i dont know if it really had anything to do with it or not. i saw him pop up over the steep hill, im set up on a corner of an L shaped ridge. knew he was a good buck immediatly stood up he was coming in pretty quick, just walking like he owned the woods, took a 30 yard trail from me. i've been practicing 30 all year with a confident group..pulled back, held, released...Missed..shot over him actually.....i was disappointed as soon as the arrow flew, i knew i was picking up my bow trying to watch the arrow fly...But he took a hop towards me not knowing what happened i managed to get another arrow knocked and ready, getting that was ridiculous cuz i dont get too many second shots...arrow clanked a few times. Got the arrow knocked and the deer was standing starting to browse infront of me, this time he was only at 20 yards! made that arrow count this time, quarting to me shot. he did know something was up this time when i drew back, pretty sure he heard me but didnt know what was really going on. hit him alittle farther back then i would have liked for that kinda shot...it was only 7:09AM. he ran over the steep hill from which he came from, im set up on an L shaped ridge. with the left and bottom of the L being the steep hill sides. climbed down out of my stand started to track him with not the greatest sign..went about 80 yards i'd say, about 40 down the hill. as i stopped and called my dad it was 8:20 so i was going slow and as i was talking to my dad i heard a deer down in the across ravine about anouther 80 yards.breaking sticks and branches, mentally marked that area and backed out, came back around 1030 and right where i left the last blood we picked up on trail. Getting alot better and heading towards where i heard the deer ealier, wasnt 10 minutes we ended up right where i heard it crash and i suppose, dyping in the morning...Overall I'm happy, although i will say he HAD to die in a hellhole all up hill draggin but it was worth it of course. only a 7point, a 18.5''outside spread feild dressed at 160 and a long ass season hunting every day since day ONE and some very good luck to get a second shot, but your season can change in a matter of moments....
