I saw it on Pittsburgh's craigslist and thought it may be a worthy cause. http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/wan/1434607538.html Steel City Anglers Club recognizes the importance of family and youth involvement, and we are trying to get youth excited about fishing again. The number of youth involved in fishing has dwindled over the years and we feel it is critical to introduce youth into fishing again. Outdoor activities are good for their health, provide a lifelong activity/hobby, educates them about the environment and the importance of conservation, as well as provides a safe and constructive activity for spending time with family and friends. It is our mission to provide youth with programs to educate them about conservation, teach them fishing skills & knowledge, provide tools and resources, and host fun family & youth outings. We are proud to announce that we will be hosting family and youth fishing seminars to teach the SMART Angler Program. This program will be taught by a certified Fishing Skills Instructor (FSI) of the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission. The program teaches basic skills, equipment, techniques and the safety of freshwater fishing in Pennsylvania, develops an understanding of the state’s aquatic ecosystems, and teaches responsible use of these aquatic resources. SMART teaches: Saftey, Manners, Appreciation, Return, Teach. The program also gives the students the opportunity to put these skills to use right away! Unfortunately our funds and resources are limited. We need your help to help others! We are seeking donations of items to help assist us to provide these opportunities to our community's youth. While there are other programs with the same aim who would help us out, we feel it is important not to take anything away from their efforts. Individuals and companies can help provide these growing opportunities for youth with simple donations of items that would provide more tools and resources for our program. We will accept items from individuals and/or companies. We do not wish to accept monetary contributions as we are not yet eligible for 501c non-profit status and therefore donations are not tax deductible. We believe your old unused fishing gear would provide just the right resources to offer youth more fishing opportunities. Take a few minutes to go through your tackle box and basement and see if there isn't something you could afford to part with. Remember your donations will help to provide our youth more opportunities to establish a wonderful lifelong hobby! Suggested items include: fishing rods, reels lures, jigs, plastic worms hooks, sinkers, bobbers tackle of any kind tools and/or parts for building any of the above fishing line tackle boxes fishing tools and accessories If you would like more information about our club, the SMART program, or would like to be informed of upcoming program dates let us know. Thank you for your consideration and support. We look forward to promoting this wonderful recreation, and to positively influencing our youth!
