Bitch Creek nymph?  I've been trying to get this pattern right, and I think I'm close.  This would be the first non-beginner fly I've learned to tie (assuming it is, in fact, non-beginner.  So take a look and tell me what you think.  Two are standard, one I tied with a flashback, and one I made flashy, with chartreuse instead of brown/orange , and a blend of pearl crystal flash and glow in the dark flashabou in the tail.

Without further ado:

Sorry about the horrible image quality.  Not sure what's up there, but I'm working on it...

Questions, comments, and suggestions welcome!

No it's not a beginner fly and it looks great! For a guy who just got started at this, you've really come a long way in a short time. Keep up the good work.                                                   PT

Doug, they look real nice!  You are really doing a nice job for only tying a few months. After the holidays are over we should get together and do a little "feather bending".

Mark actually , but thanks.

Thanks to everyone for the encouraging words!  I was starting to get kind of tired of tying wooly buggers ad nauseum, and since I'm not really fishing with alot of nymphs, the 15 or so GRHE that I tied months ago are still mostly in the vest.  I saw a picture of one of these somewhere and thought they looked really cool so I gave it a whirl.

And Ken, I'm definitely up for that.  Self-teaching is very slow going.  I've been gently hinting that a fly-tying class might make a great Xmas present.  As well as requesting several tying books.  I'd ask for materials, but almost noone else I know ties, so I dont want them to try and pick out what they think I'm describing to them.

I figured mine out.  It was within 10"...unfortunately, so was the table.  The auto-focus seemed to grab the table instead of the fly.  Note how sharp the table looks in some of those shots.

Normally when in the macro mode, you depress the button 1/2 way down(the auto focus kicks in)then depress all the way down to take photo. And B4 taking shot you shouldn't fool with the focus, pressing 1/2 way down should give you the best Quality, I use a tripod

These are tied on big 8s, the long, curved shank type (IIRC, Mustad C53S).  I'd have rather tied them on a 10 or 12, but didnt for two reasons: one, Gander only had 8s and 14s, and two, anytime I try a new technique, I like to start big and work my way to smaller hooks.  Since the pics, I tied a few, in both colors, on a size 12 dry hook.  While everything turned out great, they look more like an obese adams than a stonefly nymph.  Maybe pics tonight.

Not sure if anyone suggested this, but your background is most likely causing the blured image. Put a sheet of paper behind it and I'll bet that will make it clear. Your camera is focusing too much on the back stop.
