I have a damaged cylinder in my Mercury 150 outboard.  Any ideas about how much this will cost me to fix?? Thanks in advance...

Im assuming the engine is stock bore. Depending on how damaged it is, you may be able to tear it apart and hone it, or you will have to have it resleeved. Ive never had it done with a boat motor before, but on other engines ive had done it ran about $40 per cylinder. I havent had a resleeve done for a few years but I imagine it is still under $100. Now are you planning on tearing it apart and taking the jug to a machinist to have it done or do you want to just take it to someone and get it back running. Because between the 2 there is going to be a big price difference. For someone to do it all there gonna charge probably $50+ a man hour to tear it apart and put it back together ontop of the resleeve that they will charge extra for because they probably will have to send it to a machinist. Just a guestimate, if somebody does it all for you, $500-$700 or more. If you tear it down, buy a new gasket kit, new set of rings(if needed), new sleeve, and take it to a machinist to have it installed, will cost probably between $100-250. How do you know it has cylinder damage? Was it already inspected?

Well, the guy I took it to said he wouldn't rebuild it unless he replaced all the crankshaft bearings and rebuilt the carbuerators.  It also needs a new head. The prices he gave me were not good.  Basically, I think my best bet is to get a rebuilt head and have him put it on.  Thanks for the insight nightowl.  This one is going to hurt no matter what.

LDD,  Sometimes it's better to just buy a new (or remanufactured) engine and pay to have it installed.   Check Jasper and see if they sell outboard motors.
