For those who are chomping at the bit to get up for some steelies, here are a couple of pictures of the project waters on Walnut.  Sure looked like a lot of people having fun.

By golly, he is!  Almost as big as the net to the left of him and certainly larger than the creek itself!

I had almost talked myself into giving the Steelies a try in the tribs this year because I had forgotten about the crowds. Thanks for the pics now my memory is refreshed. lol

penn artist, it's not like this everywhere, be aware that the spots in those pics are 10 seconds from the parking lot, and near the mouth of the streams (just about the only place the fish are at this early in the season).  Once it rains a bit, take a walk, you'll find some fish and less crowds.  Most people convince themselves that if there aren't fishermen at a  spot, there aren't fish there.  That way of thinking snowballs, and you get a crowd at one place and no one at the next.  Walk a little...once it rains.

Yes there are fish there.  About half of them are facing downstream with their heads down and tails up.

From those pictures I can see the advantages of a 14' drift rod or an 11' fly rod.

The whole with the big guy in is where I fished on Thursday except I fished the tail end of it where that guy is standing on the rock in the middle of the stream.  There was only 5 of us there until after 3 ish when all the people got off work.  It's as bug said, the fish are there, but most of them are the heads down, tails up act going on.  Especially in the stop sign hole.  The one I was in at least got some fresh steel from the night before which we hooked into.  Great pics bug.  I'm sure those who can't make the trip really appreciated the photographic update.

Those people are wearing a lot of brite fish catching colors, like red, yellow, orange and
baby stroller blue. The giant king salmon net is a nice touch. Looks more like a beach party.

Wow. I fished saturday, first day out of 4 trip I thought I should have been bass fishing in WV. I DID NOT go to Walnut, thank god I didnt. Checked out 20 to 4. Mostly had some good walks. Had 1 at 20, compare that to 8 last Saturday. Missed 2 others. Fish that are in are very very pissed off. I was hoping the lake would fish, it did not. Wasted trip? Hardly. Always have to have one early trip where I start to appreciate everything else around me instead of the fish in front of me. I called it an early day at 1:00 instead of heading to check out Walnut or Elk, which I thought would be more of the same fishing, with more people than I would hope to see in the Heinz field parking lot on gameday. It's official for me, no rain this week and I'm driving 2 hours south intead of north.

We are getting some very light rain today, but not enough to really change anything I am afraid.  The rain may thin the crowds out a bit and maybe get the fish into a mood to bite.  We are supposed to get some rain this week, but time will tell.

I hope we get some good rain next week.. but only thing I've seen online is showers. Doesn't look like it's anything significant. Though you never know what to believe....
