Status: offline 		The PFBC says that there is a very healthy population of saugeyes in cross creek lake. I've been there when they've stocked it. However they are overlooked by most people fishing for bass or crappies has anyone targeted saugeye for a serious trip or know anyone that has?

Status: offline 		I have never seen one caught, nor do I know anyone who has caught one.  That being said, they have turned up in the trap nets for the biologist field reports and I think the real reason is, not many people target them.  When I think of Cross Creek, I think of bass and panfish.  On top of that, I wouldn't even begin to know where to start.

Status: offline 		I have caught a few in early spring and late fall trolling with live bait harnesses. I here there is a guy who will drift fish using a jig/crawler set up off the bottm real slow during the summer months. He does real well. They are there.

Status: offline 		I have caught several there with the largest tipping the scale at slightly less than 7 lbs.  All of the fish I have picked up have been while vertically jigging deep structure for bass or crappies.  I tried harnesses and trolling crankbaits, but there are so many snags on the bottom and sticking up that it restricts your ability to fish effectively quite often.  There are a couple of old timers down there that troll/drift for them and do quite well, but they seem to know every hump and bump on the bottom of that lake.

Status: offline 		Does that state have a state record or angler awards for the saugeye ? I couldn't find anything on their site ! They should, they have them for Pinks and Atlantics, and how many of them are ever caught. Raystown is the only place I know of atlantics and Erie gets a few pinks on even years... If the state stocks them or they reproduce in our waters were should have a classification for them ! They stocked saugeyes in Herdford manor this year !

Status: offline 		If I'm not mistaken Jeb, it has something to do with the fish being a hybrid.  Hence the reason hybrid stripers, tiger muskie, and tiger trout are not on there as their own category.  Hybrid stripers are lumped in with stripers, tiger muskie with muskie, and I'm not even sure tiger trout are acknowledged.

Status: offline 		saugeye can't reproduce, but do they still go through the "act" of spawning? Like fishing shallows in the early spring at trib mouths?

Status: offline 		I know most hybrids can't reproduce, you get a few freaks in there that can. But Tigers do occur naturally in Pa, its rare, but they do. The whole purpose for angler awards and records are to recognize a trophy fish within the fishing community. It should'nt matter if its a hybrid or not. The state is going to quit stocking tigers this year so maybe the won't or shouldn't add that species, but the saugeye seems to be here to stay, so they should. If anyone catches a big one, try submitting it for a record and see if the PAFBC will recognize it, thats how the atlantic salmon record came about. I just think its nice to recognize and outstanding catch no matter what species it is.

I would think if a saugeye was big enought to meet the walleye criteria, they would recognize it.  I completely agree with you though, I've always felt there should be seperate categories for Hybrid Stripers and Tiger Muskie.  I've seen real trophy hybrids caught, I'm talking 15 pounds, that aren't worth a lick because they're lumped in with Stripers.

Of course a few years back I got a citation for a 10.5 lb Steelhead.  Couldn't tell you where that is at, and since then I've caught a handful of steelhead over 11 pounds, all the way up to almost 14.  Haven't sent the paperwork in at all.  I have my picutres and my memories!!
