Planning on a float trip including a lot of fishing. I have read dr. trout entries and he seems to go north of the town of Clarion. Where is a good place to launch if we want to do an overnighter and end up in Clarion ??  Are there places to camp along the way ??  Suggestions on tackle ?
I sincerely appreciate any help.
Bill

To end up in Clarion you will have to traverse 6 miles of backwater full of speedboats and hike stright up for about a mile.  Better off going up the river.  There is good road access over most of the river above Cook's Forest.

I would try going upstream from clarington , there is a deep area just below clear creek which holds a good number or bass and trout. pull over on the big rocks and fish awhile. there is a canoe rental in clarington who will haul your canoe up river for a small fee or he rents old towns for under thirty bucks and you have no hassel. as for camping if its not in a campground I dont think you can do it anymore.

camping is allowed from millstone creek (which is
above clarington on river rd.) all the way to
halton ,it is allowed by the state forest or federal
, they do check to make sure you pack out what you pack in
, also all sites are close to the road and river, while there
stop at the halton hilton, ask any one where it is, youll
be amazed

Be careful in selecting sites in the areas that no time just mentioned.... many have been closed to camping and you will get fined.....

Make sure there are no signs saying NO CAMPING.... especially in the area around Belltown !!!!!!

Just went to a wedding up there this past weekend. The reception was at the Gateway Lodge I believe. From what I saw if you get off I-80 at Brookville and head North on rt. 36 follow that until u cross the Clarion RIver there were campsites there and access to the River. I'm going back in a couple weeks with the gf. Rent a canoe and do some fishing. We'll see how it goes. I'll have better info when we get back.

you could also get off of i 80 at the corsica exit
rt. 949 which will save you few miles and take
you into sigal where if you go straight ahead at
intersection of rt 36 you go thru clear creek state park,
if you turn left onto rt 36 go to indian trading post and
turn right onto rt.899 cross river and turn right into
clarington follow river rd. to belltown & camping areas
along rd. (no charge, no permit, just don't camp at
private areas marked no camping.
or you could turn left after you cross river, go approx.
half mi. turn left first rd . at stop sighy go left onto river road
and gateway lodge and cooks forest
hope this helps
