I would like to give the Cat a try this fall but iI've never fished it before. Where can I buy a Seneca license and how much is it? Or am I better off fishing upstream more on the public land?

Steelhead Streams in Western New York
DEC Region 9 offers steelhead anglers an abundance of opportunities from the mighty lower Niagara River to Cattaraugus Creek, one of the premier streams in the state, to other smaller streams. These streams offer high quality lake-run steelhead fishing from November through April. The majority of the steelhead in these streams are the result of smolt stockings by DEC. There is some natural reproduction of steelhead that adds to the fishery, particularly in the Cattaraugus Creek system. Studies are ongoing to evaluate the contribution of these wild fish to the angler catch. Projects are being planned and implemented to increase the contribution of wild steelhead.
Legend
PRF: Public fishing rights, which are public rights-of-way through otherwise private land. Please be considerate of the landowners and their property. Yellow "Public Fishing Area" signs are posted along sections of streams with PFR. Maps are available for all streams with PFR.
Need owner permission: In sections of these streams without PFR, you must obtain permission to fish from the landowner. Respect their property or you risk losing public access to these streams.
Please note: small tributary streams to the major water listed here also get runs of steelhead. These streams can provide good fishing, but they are located on private lands and you must have landowner permission to fish them. Your fishing license is not a permit to trespass on private property!

A Seneca license just went up to $45 . Easiest place to get one is at the Seneca Service Mart , a large purple convenience store on routes 5 and 20 . Lots of good places all along the Cat from the lake up to Springville.

There seems to be an abundance of places. is there areas where the crowds are fewer than say around Erie?
Going to Erie is fine but the crowds are a bit much at times

Then go explore the catt. The nature of the catt would never allow for the hoards of people Erie has.

Reason maybe -

You have to do too much fishing and not enough catching. :)

The catt is not a bathtub. :)

You can't see the fish, usually :)

You'll likely have to walk a bit. :)

Spoonfed info. isn't really out there. :)

silverkype thanks for the info I am used to fishing a place where fish arent caught by the tubfuls -the allegheny river and the part about walking and no crowds thrill me. i always wanted to fish another spot i just catch and release anyway but it sounds great i like a challenge.

Sounds like my kind of place to, I walk my butt off at the salmon river to get away, been at it there for 27 years up there, love the dsr in late oct.
That Catt sure sounds inviting, when in the fall do there really get going there?
that Indian res, sound like my kind of get away spot, are there areas there where yo can get away an not see a ton of folks.
anyone here fish it much. would love to get some info on that area before I make the trip from here in Raleigh NC,
