Status: offline 		Fished lower Elk yesterday and the local beaver was swimming around
down along the wall. One of the guys hooked the beaver and it broke
his line, then he proceded to laugh and hoop about it. I was hoping
someone would take a little cleo and hook him in the side of the face.
People have no respect for anything and where is the common sense?

PS: I know where this thread is going to end up.....

Status: offline 		Brookie i watched a guy casting to a duck one day at walnut he finally hooked the poor thing. I know how you feel i would have liked to taken my muskie rod spooled up with 80 braid and a 100LB steelleader and a bulldog and hooked him in the side of the head and watched him run around trying to get it out while i laughed at him. Some real tool bags out their that have no respect for anything. And it kills me they call themselves sportmans. Don't fell bad brookie i hope that the tool bag reads this.

sounds like the same mentality as "they are just stupid fish"
there has been a recently prevailing opinion that since they are animals, no need to respect them

I completely agree about these fools.  However....funny how we act the same way when we hook a fish.  Sure is a fine line between which animals mouths we decide to put a hook into.

Secondly,  me and the wife went to Aruba last week.  You wouldn't believe how much beaver I landed.  Who'd have thunk it?

Status: offline 		No offense, but if you seen him indeed do this, why would you not call the law enforcement ? I have never seen a warden tolerate someone abusing animals. I am a animal lover and I know personally I would not have tolerated this behavior. Did more than 1 other person see him do this ? This is indeed a time when you confront the person and get his information, weather it a license plate or a fishing license number. I know most people think that anymore you can not confront people when they are displaying rude behavior, but there is power in people. I was out at Clear lake last weekend and seen 3 idiots in a boat duck hunting. They would row over to a group of ducks in the water and all three of them would stand up and each pump 3 shots into the group. Needless to say I seen them take well over 15 ducks. So, I trolled right over to their boat and asked them if they were taking more than they should. Of course I was treated rudely by them. I told them to either leave immediately (I already had their boat registration number number), or I would call the authority's. One guy called my bluff  - so I borrowed my buddies cell phone and called the game commission right while I was beside their boat. Needless to say, they left in a hurry. I don't know if they got caught or not, but I let the warden know that they are pretty much out there every weekend. A lot of people complain that the wardens do not do their job, but if they don't know what's happening, how can they enforce it ? It's a shame to see crap like that happen to any animal.......

Status: offline 		Did not catch a single fish.  I only took lures.  Water was very clear.  Tried everything especially for the cudas we saw snorkeling on our beach.  Some were 40" or more.  Locals said they rarely catch them in the clear water.  They recommended bait.  I did not even brink any rigs.  Still fun casting.  Casted on the rougher north shore as well.  Big spoons, topwaters, jerkbaits.  Nada.  Saw some big jacks and plenty of non game fish snorkeling.  So if I couldn't beat em, I swam with em.  Still glad I tried.  Guess next time I'll have to throw some money down on a charter. 

I had to keep the beaver.  Plan on mounting it over and over.  I did see many trophy beaver that I would love to have c and r'd.  International beaver.  Dutch, South and Central American, European.  All different species.  In the end I decided I have one American trophy and that is enough.  Baitwise....beaver only go after snakes.

You should have taken pictures.  I bet not too many of us have seen barracudas snorkeling before.

As for the cudas, we saw 3 total.  All near rocky reef environments away from the white sand part of our beach.  First 2 were only 2 footers.  3rd was massive.  To be honest it scared the crap out of me for a second, until I realized I scared the crap out of him.  They are so silver they just appear out of nowhere, couldn't see them until you were within arms length, which made for some wierd screams from my wife.  All of them quickly moved on.  Five years ago I followed a 30 inch cuda around in shallow water for 10-15 minutes.  Never once shyed away from me even when I was on top of it in maybe 3 ft of water. 

I could easily take up snorkeling as a substitute for fishing in the right place.  Some of the most peaceful hours of my life when I look back on them.

Status: offline 		I was on a charter in the Bahamas a few years ago and landed a barracuda.
That thing acted like it wanted to bite all of us on the boat.
The guide said that it was just gasping for air/water then thew it in the cooler.
At the end of the trip we asked where we could get it mounted.
He said: I don't know good luck monn.
Then we asked if they were good to eat.
His response was that there were too many small bones and poor taste.

Just after we got off the boat we saw him running down the dock with the fish.
I wonder if he ate for a week or sold it to someone to mount

I am a little familiar with some of the international beaver and have found some to be a little hairy.
Not sure what is worse the nature trail or the underarms.

Status: offline 		when i lived in state college, i was bass fishing a small lake from a boat.  throwing spinner baits in the shallows.  a herron leaped out from the weeds and grabbed my spinnerbait. hooked solid on 14lb line.
a guy in a kayak helped me coral it. we threw a shirt over its head and unhooked it.  a very bad experience.  my hands were still shaking when i got back to the launch. i can't imagine intentionaly doing anything like that.

If the man was trying to snag the beaver.....Posting this here did absolutely no good what so ever.  You ask "where is the common sense?" You dont have it either because you did nothing to stop it or prevent it from happening again. If you cared half as much as you leed us to believe you do you would have made a phone call while it was happening not complain on a computer days after the event occured.

The view that Steelhead are just a fish, has nothing to do with a lack of repect, or need to respect them. It's about not needing to lose one's mind over them, as you know some folks have been known to do.

I saw a beaver one time where I was fishing. It was a hot weekday probaly a 65-70 degree day and nobody around me but there was flow in the creeks and color. But there was a beaver upstream from me it was just sitting in the water right next to the bank. To me it looked like he was just cooling off. My thoughts though were how great it is to be here watching animals do what they do. I missed about 2 or 3 hits but was still thinking about the beaver, who was still up there. I hooked into a fish and it was making some splashing noise, but however the beaver still sat there what looked to me like relaxing now. What I'm trying to get to though is how someone can hurt an animal thats doing that, thats just sick. I would not have gone up to that beaver to hook him. The beaver was just being to amazing or whatever you want to call it. It just made me think thats so cool that I'm here in the middle of nature. Like everyone else said though you have to do something. Call the fish commision or get proof that he was doing it. Just do something.
