Going back for my 5th anniversary with wifey, went their on honeymoon but was only allowed to take 1 "rod"....so to speak.  Snorkeled on beaches and on shipwreck and saw many oppurtunities.  Also saw many large fish crashing bait on north shoreline near natural bridges.  Has any one fished in Aruba before?  Care to offer your experiences/information?

Saw bones, cuda's, snappers, heard there are tarpon.  Not looking to do a deep sea charter as I would rather find fish in surf/flats/near shore reefs.  Thinking of taking a bass rod and box of basic lures.

Stayed at the Wyndham before, this time at the Divi All Inclusive Resort.  Little further away from the highrises.

I haven't fished there, but did fish in the gulf inshore off Tampa for 3 years. Bring the heaviest bass rod you have and load it up with at least 17# line and some heavier leader. Those ocean fish all have teeth and will fight better than any freshwater fish you can tangle. Good luck.

I think your best bet for shore fishing for bigger fish will be the north shore.  I too saw some big fish, could have been jacks, but who knows, cruising the big breakers near the natural bridge.  Hope you aren't going to look at it again.  It collapsed a couple years ago.  Wife and I went there on our honeymoon too.  We chipped in with another couple and rented a jeep for the day and had a lot of fun.  Went 4 wheeling back to the natural pool...probably some good fishing out around there too.  Saw the old ruins on the north shore (forget the name), went to the natural bridge, went snorkeling up near that lighthouse on the Northeast corner of the island (lots of good snorkeling there).  Saw some guys fishing at the mouth of the ship channel catching some smaller, panfish type fish that they were keeping.  Not sure what they were.  I snorkeled all the way over there and saw lots of smaller fish, just nothing too big.  There is a lot of stuff in the water out in front of Tamirijn and Divi, especially if you get out to 9-12' deep.  Just be careful, I almost got run over by a boat once and jet skis on several occassions when I was out there snorkeling.  Wife about rung my neck each time I came back to sure.  I just told her, hun, that is why I have life insurance!  Every once in awhile I'd see a nice sized cuda (2.5-3foot) laying in a pothole in the grass.  Tell you one thing, a bass rod and 17# isn't going to help you if you get a hold of a decent jack or cuda.  If they don't break you off, you are going to get spooled if you only have a standard bait caster.  I'd go with 30# power pro and take some 30-50# single strand wire to make up some leaders if you are going to be casting plugs.  I'd also take a reel with some capacity too.

I have a 10' 2 piece Tsunami rated at 30-50# if you want to borrow it.  It is just collecting dust.  I have a big Okuma spinning reel on it but due to lack of maintenance, it is locked up right now.  You could probably get it in working order with a good cleaning.  I probably have some wire laying around too and I know i have lots of tackle collecting dust from my Texas surf and offshore days.

We stayed at the Tamirijn resorts which is semi-connected to Divi.  Luckily, we got the free honeymoon upgrade to the all inclusive at the Divi and didn't have to eat at just our resort.  Divi food wasn't bad but the food in Mexico, especially the buffets, was much better.  If I had my choice, I'd eat at the Red Parrot every night.  The food there was pretty good and you got to watch beautiful sunsets everynight while eating.  They had some good beach partys and other entertainment at Divi almost every night.  Did you every hit the casinos down there?  Wife drug me out after only losing $50 on blackjack.  Anyways, the door man almost kicked my butt for trying to take a picture of the inside of the place.  Had a pretty good time down there.  Had free bikes to use and we took some bike rides around town and over to the grocery store to pick up some of the local Balashi (sp?) beer for back in the room.

I did a lot of the same stuff before.  Heard about the natural bridge collapse, we want to take a picture on the rubble because we have a picture of us on top of it when it was still there.  Did the jeep tour, pretty fun and rugged terrain.  We had nice snorkeling on a reef on our beach and we did a cruise to the German shipwreck, so many fish I was dying for a pole.  Snappers and groupers on the bottom.  We are staying at the Divi and our deal includes the resorts next to it so we have 11 restaurants to choose from.  Still we want to go back to the Gasparito more inland that served the largest single slab of fish I've ever paid money for.  Wahoo.  Amazing.  We kayaked out far and almost got drilled by a small ferry boat that then did circles around us to mess with us.  I have a heavy duty Tica that's 9' with an Okuma Baitfeeder and 30 pound test but I didnt really want to bring it.  Not going to bother getting bait and I didnt think about throwing big lures.  I will bring steel leaders and some lures just big enough to throw on a bass rod.  Maybe I'll do 10 on that and take my 8'6 salmon pole which is lighter and easier to throw lures with.  It's rated for 20#, maybe I'll throw some braid on it to cast easier.  I followed many cudas around snorkeling so I wouldn't mind getting into one.  Thanks for the offer of your tackle anyway.

The food we had last time at the Wyndham for the most part was outstanding.  Some dinners were on the beach where they setup tables at sunset.  Casinos we mostly donated money.  I also enjoyed the Balishi beer and I think I ate the conch chowder every day.  Can't wait to get back.  39 days.
