I hunt some areas towards west Greene, and my wifes family has a small farm about 6 miles outside of Jefferson. It's hunting paradise down there. Like it used to be everywhere in the old days. You have to be alert on stand all day during rifle season because deer pass by any time of day. The only problem is that I dont have free run of the properties down there, I'm usually a guest. If I lived down there, I'd never leave the county to hunt because there is no better place in PA...not anymore anyway.

One place I hunt isn't too far from there. A few miles past Rodgersville. I remember the first time my buddy took me hunting down there. I saw more deer in the fields beside the road on the way down than I'd see all year up around home. At one point, we had to swerve to avoid hitting a doe that was bedded down ON THE ROAD! There wasn't anything wrong with her. She just laid down on the yellow line. It was nothing to see a deer standing in the middle of a field at 2 o'clock in the afternoon down there.
Man, I love the hunting down that way.

Was like that where we hunt in Wash., til they started to issue all of those doe tags. At one time, not that long ago you couldn't drive 25mph on the way home because of the # of deer crossing the roads. That was really too many deer, but the # are down dramaticaly, at least where we hunt, also posting is becoming much more of a prob.   sam

You guys should probably just stay the F out of Greene Co.  Rogersville is my hometown(well, close).  I graduated from West Greene Hillbilly freakin' high.  And here you go tellin' God and everyone about how good the hunting is down our way.  SOB MFer.

Just kidding!!  Great place to raise a kid, in my opinion.  We dont have a lot of public ground, but there are some decent game lands out that way.  I dont know the number but the gamelands out by Delphine is nice for Squirells and deer, and the one down on Enlow is similar.  I dont think either one has a whole lot of pheasants though.  They used to stock a decent amount of them when I was a kid, but I think Washington Co gets them all now.  The gamelands out by Pine bank is probably worth checking out too.  Be good to the little local businesses, Like CreekSide Kitchen in Graysville, one of my friends Mom runs the little place.  Good Rueben.

Good luck, like said before, you almost have to know somebody, or you are stuck to a gamelands.

We have a name for the 2000000 cars that go by on the first day of deer season...

Fayette Cong!!!

You dont have to worry about being overrun. There's not enough non posted land down there.
