Saw a doe yesterday AM.... ran up to me at full speed, ran one direction then did a 180 and ran back across under me and disappeared.

i figure she was spooked by someone or something or else or had been whacked by an arrow

Still cool to see a deer in the first hour of the season.

Saw a monster buck (8+ points on a BIG rack) while bike riding last week and another while driving my kid to babysitting today.

got back from the 800 acre spread in Oneonta tonight.
seen a nice BIG 8pt friday while working on my son's stand. Went out first light sat to my stand and seen 12 deer only 1 was a nice 6pt. and only a yearling was within shooting range, let it be. Today I seen another 9 doe & 2 turkeys from the same stand. The deer would come between 40 & 30 yards but no closer, I just wont take that shot.. Oh yea also seen some nice bear tracks and the neighbor has seen 2 bear..

It was a good weekend but I really need some more bow hunters to come along to reduce the doe herd.
Plenty of big bucks there but way to many deer.

I'll post some pic's tomorrow...

Ok here is the deal, I have 800 acres and way too many deer. To our members ONLY, I would like to thin the herd but it would be by invitation only and for the moment bow hunters. If it works out then I may invite you (some I would anyway) for gun hunting. So talking bow for now:
Would like to shoot doe and of course would not object to a real shooter buck. No spikes, 4pts. or basket 6 or 8's.
I have 8 stands set up and you will see deer. No hero shots, only kill shots. I shoot 30 yards or less. Hunting will only be done with me and I can hunt fri,sat or sundays. I have had ppl (friends) hunt there before and it just don't work out so I'm pretty strict on things. There are plenty of big bucks and really they die of old age more then killed by the 3 (myself, son & brother-in law).
Camping is the gig on site.
Here are some pic's of the set up from last weekend and also some deer from the past(some are from ppl who were not invited back)

Camp:

seen 21 deer from just this stand last weekend

it's 90% hardwoods except for this stand of pines

My 8pt mount

A good weekend 2 10's & a 8pt

A serious 5 year old

My son's first deer an 8pt, His stand is off limits

A departed Friend and A+ hunter

so all these deer have been shot on my land.
Again we just cant get enough doe to keep things in check, only 3 of us left hunt there and with that only my son & me bow hunt.

Looks like a nice population of good deer and nice little camp there RJ ... Good luck everybody !!

On a side note, i got up to get a drink and take a leak @ around 3:20am this morning ... and there were
the does again laying in my front yard. About 20-30yrds out my front window. I put a flash light on them, but nothing with horns hanging around with them.

You should have seen me LAST weekend... I woke up feeling like I shot a 16 pointer or something....

Turns out I shot 16 of SOMETHING... They looked like big blue 12oz shotgun slugs all around the campsite...

NJ, you are more then welcome to come and put out some cover scent , ride the atv to drag our deer, keep the heater going at camp and shoot I'll let you use my old sling shot if you want..
