Just checking to see who's out and around and actually getting to play.  I've only played one actual round this year, shot a 94 at Linden Hall, that's with a 9 on 17...  Kinda Fell apart on that one.  Other than that, I managed my way into two scrambles, one at Laural Valley Golf Club and one at Scenic Valley.  Hoping to get out this weekend, taking my old man out on Sunday, not sure where yet.

Anyone else been playing?

Been out twice so far -- once at Oakland Beach and then at Crab Apple Ridge.  First time out I played OK and shot an 82 at Oakland.  Shot an 85 at Crab Apple under really windy conditions.  Hoping to play this weekend while I'm away at Blueberry Hill in Warren.

I have played twice so far.   Most recently, Tippy and I played Goose Creek in North Carolina near the Outbanks.  The course sucked, the last three fairways were weeds.  On top of that I played horrible, finished the front nine with three 6's, 8 and 9.  Played a little better on the back nine but not much.

Does anybody use a Taylor Made, Draw/Burner driver?  If so how do you like it?  I demo'ed it earlier this year and never hit the ball as straight or as far.   I am thinking about buying it!

Don't use a Taylormade but I recently invested in a Callaway FT5 and so far it has made a world of difference. I was hitting a Hogan CS3 and while I could control it relatively well, the max distance I could get out of it was about 260 yards.
Since using the FT5, I've been able to keep the ball in the fairway more consistently and have added about 20 yards of distance. Even the misshit shots fly on average further than the Hogan.

I have an R5, but I have not hit the Burner.  I've always been a fan of the Taylormade stuff.  I'm still figuring out my R5, so I'm not ready to switch just yet.

I was always a Callaway guy until last year -- couldn't hit my Big Bertha for $hit.  Decided to just test a few at Dick's just on feel and the Taylor Made R7 was the one I went with.  It's made a big difference and it does help correct your slice.  Really love the club -- not too bad of a price tag either.

Unfortunately I didn't get out this weekend.  Maybe sometime after work this week.

Played Indian Run in Avella today, the greens were fast and I pretty much couldn't read a putt to save my life, so you can imagine how that went.  I had a 4 putt 7 on hole one, so my day didn't even remotely start out on a good note...

I also use Taylor made "woods" and irons.  I have the R5 "woods" and use the RAC irons.  After a long "layoff," I have finally returned to a 12 handicap.  The "woods" were re-gripped and shafted by Jaques Lemoyne (The Club house) in Erie.  He does great work and is quite knowledgeable about the game.

I'm around scratch. I play everyday though. Just picked the clubs up for the first time in 3 years a month ago. I shot 3 under at the course I work at a week or 2 ago. I am actually getting the chance to golf and play baseball both at the school I am transferring to.  I'm still trying to sell my old irons if anyone is interested. Send me a PM.

Taylor Made is the way to go. I just bought the new Tour Burner TP. Unbelieveable club. Only for low handicapers though. As far as the burner draw. I have heard many good things for mid handicapers battling the slice. The burner products in general are great. The burners are the longest and lightest of all the TM woods. I also have a rescue TP hybrid that came straight from the nationwide tour. Its pretty sweet. I would recomend Taylor Made products to anyone.

Guys, tried to play, but my back and neck say "NO WAY! ! !"  No matter how many pain killers I take.  Last time I played (2years ago) I shot an 84 but the others in my foursome had a 70, 71 and 74. (par 72) So even when I played well it wasn't good enough.  My next goal is to have the back surgery and then shoot my age, , , for 9 holes.

I played yesterday morning at Mill Creek for the first time.  It's a 9-hole course but we went around twice... ended up with an 81.  Irons and Driver were great... putting wasn't too bad but I missed several birdie/par puts by inches that would have helped the score.

A golf outing would be cool for board members... I'd be in depending on location and time.

No doubt.  I'd be interested for sure, but free time isn't exactly in my vocabulary.  It would depend when it is for me, more so than where.

For those interested in playing, let me know your general location and I will see if I can find a course that is equal distant for everyone.

GTO,
Recently got my daughter (age 35) interested in the game because her husband and son (age 12) both play. She hated the game for years.  Now she wants to play every day!  Had to have matching clubs, golf outfits and shoes had to match color of bag and clubs, as did sun visor.  So far her rounds (for 9) have been, 75, 68, 64, 55 and 51.  We go to play her 1st 18 on Monday and if she beats the "Old Man"!!

Buy some cheap clubs at first. You will throw and or break a few as you get better. Beer can fuel the fire on a missed shot. I hit a ball washer once . Needless to say I have a little temper. Thank god they were 2nd hand clubs my pop gave me.

Went out and played today with my family.   Pain killers can really help ones' attitude about the game.   Shot a 115 which is pretty lousy but I was chipping back onto some reverse slopes  (greens) so that added about 20 strokes.  I was overhitting my short irons by about 15-20 yds.   1st time I ever hit them that far.  Highlight of the day was when my 12 year old grandson hit a measured 205 yard drive and followed it with a 154 yd 5 wood and then 2 putted for a legit par on a par four.  But his game went from 4-5's to 9-10's.   Kid has the mechanics but needs to learn control and consistancy.  He was on the green twice on par threes and then 4 putted!
Will somebody please tell me how I can hit a 135 yard drive and then follow it with a 225 yard 4 iron?  I just can't swing a driver anymore (really bad back).   I'm thinking about hitting three iron off the tee and then 5 iron off the fairway on all the par 4's.   Of course then I could hit driver on the par threes.

Hey Smallie,I don't know what your handicap is but I was once in the low single digits 9 years ago.Take this as a honest game improvement tip:

Buy Ben Hogan's Five Fundamentals of Golf published in 1955.I used this along with some instruction from my college golf coach to play the best I ever could and have since,I don't have any time anymore and really fish 10 times as much as golf now.But anyway,it's $12.95 softback and is worth more that 10 lessons from a pro.It teaches you the right way, very technical.

To be perfectly honest, my handicap is pretty much my swing at this point.  I was down to 12 at one point, now I'm back up around 19.  Of course I've been spending more time on the water than on the course, so I guess that's only normal.  As long as I can stay better than my buddies and take their money, I'm fine!

I'll look into that book though, I can use all the help I can get.  I have a copy of "How I Play Golf", by Tiger Woods.  A lot of the stuff in there is helpful, but some of the stuff in there is only helpful if you're actually kind of good to begin with!

Thanks for the heads up.
